eTrio Automobiles, a Hyderabad-based company, has obtained regulatory certification to retrofit petrol and diesel cars into pure Electric Vehicles (EVs). The company claims that it has the knowhow to do the transformation in 36 hours economically for consumers. With the aim to reduce pollution and provide safety to customers, eTrio has already rolled out the first batch at its factory in Hyderabad, Telangana. The company has worked on 10 models for certification in its first slot, and would roll out nearly 50 cars for the initial set of customers. Registration of the first certified retrofitted electric car in the country has been completed by the Telangana RTO, a company release said. "We spent all these months on testing different kits on various models. As everyone prefers cabs and taxies over other modes of commute, we have approached cab and taxi companies for collaboration," said Nitish Bhandari, COO of eTrio, who previously worked with Ola Cabs. The company is also working with leading charging companies to provide a complete EV fleet solution. It is also optimising the battery swapping system. Currently, eTrio kits have a range of 150 km per charge and soon would achieve 230+ km per charge. To make the final product safe and reliable, the company would assemble battery packs on their own rather than approach any third party.
