The students, Andrew Treas and Anastasia Tevis, are participants in MINDDRIVE, a metro-area program aimed a providing mentorship opportunities to students interested in expanding their workforce potential. Last year, MINDDRIVE had a group of students take a similar vehicle from Kansas City to D.C. This year, the group flew out to California and made their way down the Pacific Coast Highway from Arcata to Carmel. MINDDRIVE dubs this year’s trek a “Raise Your Hand” tour, and was using its stops at schools and tech clubs along the way not only to show off the student’s handiwork with the refurbished Ghia, but also to encourage people to become mentors. Treas, who got to drive the Ghia through a redwood forest, said the experience has been incredible. “I’ve been in MINDDRIVE since January 2013 and since then, it’s benefitted my life in every single aspect,” he wrote from the road. “MINDDRIVE has given me critical connections to an ever-growing network of people who never cease to amaze me, which has allowed me to advance my life and career path at unreal speeds. Everything we do at MINDDRIVE exceeds all expectations.” They group will have a press conference at San Francisco City Hall today and then will head to Twitter headquarters and Stanford University before getting ready to head back to Kansas City tomorrow.
