Occasionally I post a 'ding'
http://onlineslangdictionary.com/meaning-definition-of/ding
item like that item to show 'these are out there and the public believes
them'.
EVangels will run into the public repeating/parroting this mis-information.

To answer the posed question, I am not recharging an EV at this time, but my
local (San Antonio, TX) utility does offer a way to pay for renewable
electrons
https://www.cpsenergy.com/en/solr_search.html?q=renewable&fq=language:en

This is similar to what I had (1990-2000) when I lived in an apartment in
Silicon Valley, CA. The local utility pge.com touted a mix, but to really
get clean electrons there were companies back then that you would pay to get
cleaner electrons.
At that time, I was recharging at home off a 200' long extension cord
connected to my 14-50 oven outlet running out a window to the car port
connected to one of my 3kW chargers. It cost about 20% more, but it was
still cheap.

So, for renter who is restricted/limited to not having a pv installation
like home owners do, paying for cleaner electrons worked ok for me. Here are
searches as examples, but replace my zip-code for yours.

If I remember right,, at the time I was using green mt., but they may not
service that area now. But, other companies do, see
https://www.svcleanenergy.org/residential-rates/

As I hope to change from being an apartment dweller to being a home owner
soon, I will be looking into adding solar to that home. But, I would not
want to try to sell my pv power back to the local grid. TX locals told me I
would do better (more co$t effective) to invest in a powerwall (or similar)
to store that pv power for after-dark use, etc.

Meanwhile, I could search for what green sources are here in TX ...
https://www.google.com/search?q=renewable+electricity+78229

Btw, TX has several solar programs
http://www.ocisolarpower.com/texas-utilities/
as well as several large wind farms
https://www.cpsenergy.com/content/corporate/en/about-us/programs-services/energy-generation/wind/windtricity.html

Bottom line:
-an apt dweller could recharge off renewable electrons if they wanted to.
