"The car he had in California was electric. It had a 10KWh battery and would go 100 miles between charges - It weighed under 1,000 pounds. I rode in the car some 50 miles or so, and was impressed with the ride, comfort etc. It carried 4 passengers. " Maybe it's the tires but the VLC gets nowhere

[EVDL] EVLN: The Big EV Debate> Go for Small or Big Battery Pack?

2015-09-28 Thread Lawrence Rhodes via EV
The debate should be about  light or heavy vehicles and efficiency.  If you have an efficient vehicle that is light you might draw 55wh per mile.  The typical heavy conversion like the I3 , Leaf, Rav4, IMEV, or any other of the currently available EV's are just too heavy to give good range with

It appears that 20 years later the French made a car similar to German attempts. The C was a front wheel drive design (using the A Series flat twin), housed in an ultra lightweight (382 kg), aerodynamic body with DS style wide front track and narrow rear track. Shaped like a drop of water -

You are still thinking 3000 pound conversions. Cut the weight and cut the battery weight. Get good aerodynamics. I bet Clouds Dolphin would do great with a 1kw of solar. Imagine it at 1500 pounds with a small pack. Just do the math. It's all about the numbers. The lighter the vehicle the

I want all the naysayers regarding solar panels on vehicles to look at the   World Solar Challenge.  The Cruiser Class rules are pushing the envelope on practical  solar vehicles.  Progress is happening fast.  Just look at the creations of the students at Einhoven University of Technology.

I think that there is a lot of silent engineering going on at many firms including Tesla.  I have a contact at Tesla and they are mum about Stella's visit to the Tesla Factory or any questions about a Tesla Solar Car.  Tesla is now sponsoring the Cruiser Class of the World Solar Challenge.
