[EVDL] (ot): EVLN EV newswire status ... BINGO!

2018-03-27 Thread brucedp5 via EV

The EV newswires have been lighter/slow of late (I do feel like I am
scraping both the bottom and the sides of the barrel). If there is a
gap/skipped days of no EVLN posts, it may not be my health issues but, there
just wasn't anything worth your time. When there are just little short
items, as your seen, I just chain them together as one post, so that you can
pick and choose which ones you want.

(ot) My status: Today, I succeeded in surrendering my CA drivers lic as I
will be getting a TX one in the pomail (Yay!, finally).

So, why did it take s long. I had to bring to the TX DMV: my paper birth
certificate, the actual paper social security card, a paper-printout of my
CA vehicle registered as Texan (I now have TX plates), a paper proof of my
vehicle insurance switched as to say covered in Texas (though the insurance
are still hassling me about the TX address I am living at as it conflicts
with what the USPS sez ... odd), and it took what seems like forever to
switch two of my financial sources to the TX address and have them send
pomail to it as you also need those piece of pomail as proof you actually
live in TX as one of many requirements to get a TX drivers lic if you are
not a Texas resident (at some point I was pleading over the phone with those
companies as they could not understand that the pomail statement I was
asking them to send was what TX DMV wants as proof I do indeed live in TX).

The great day I had been waiting for had arrived (so I can get on with what
life I have left). I arrived at the TX DMV office when they opened (8a) to
find a line of people stretching all way out around the building, and also
noticed that I had (old-man) forgotten to bring my folder with all the
(above) needed paperwork proof. So, I had to go back and get it.

I with many, many others, we waited from 9am to 3pm to be processed (I may
have medical issues but, at least I am not diabetic, as I didn't dare not
leave to eat lunch else they will mark me as absent - a guy sitting next to
a bunch of us 'have-been-waiting-for-hours' old-timers was falsely marked
absent = yes, the whole process was a poorly handled mess).

When my number finally, ... finally came up, I felt like yelling BINGO! (but
I didn't, I didn't want to come off a sarcastic ... and those still waiting
wouldn't have appreciated my happy-happy joy-joy).

I quite happy to be done and would be receiving my TX drvrs lic (as I was
hungry, needed to take my blood-pressure/heart-rhythm medications, and was
tired - I needed my afternoon nap).

So, now I can connect with a realtor, look over some homes for sale,
relocate out of my temporary digs which are way/much too far away from the
VA hospital I so depend on (I still have to wait until May for my primary
care Dr. appointment - why sooo long? = SOP at that VA hospital).

Another good news item, since my 66th birthday is at the end of this month,
I have also succeeded in arranging to start receiving direct deposit checks
(another Yay! - I have a positive cash flow again).

I figure at the end of this relocation to TX adventure, I will be much more
settled, and will have traded in my vehicle for what half of the central
Texans drive, a big Ol' truck

Do you plan to hit the EV museum in Kingman? Worth the effort, IMHO.
An interesting segment of Route 66 is between Needles and Kingman; goes
through the little tourist town of Oatman and then over the Sitgreaves Pass.

Also, you should take a look at Ira Yates' charging station in Iraan.
Ira has been a longish term Austin EV proponent. At least since he
bought one of the early Tesla Roadsters.

Good luck!

Not to go into all the details ... how this will impact my EVLN posts we

There may be days when I do not post, or days where I post a couple of days

A lot of challenges await this old-man, but I am hoping for the best.

[EVDL] OT: EVLN EV newswire status ...

2015-07-05 Thread brucedp5 via EV

The following has OT subjects: a responder's post should be EV-related. I
post this for the EV time-line as a point in EV-history, thus I am
mentioning non-EV points that affect it.

You may have noticed a change to what I am posting both in content and in
amount. A few months ago there was a flurry of EV related items, and now it
has slowed considerably.

So why is that?
IMHO, as I have mentioned before, it is a change in manufacturer's strategy.

There is a change in what is being fed to media outlet writers. It is not a
change in public opinion, as the media has never really listened to what the
public wants, but to when a company pays the media outlet to do something
for them (money talks). The copy (a manufacturer's news release, etc.) given
to the media outlet writers is for them to pump out to the public as
informational gospel (though 'we' know it is anything but that ... ).

As some may know, several times a day, I sieve through the newswires
gleaning out plugin items that evdl.org members would be interested in
reading as well as items that show the changes in plugin attitudes, etc.

This force-fed copy has keywords Electric, vehicle, car mixed in with
their actual agenda (h2, fcv, alt-fuels, etc.). Thus when someone tries to
find plugin news, they are going to get a whole lot of junk they were not
seeking (its another form of spamming, unwanted advertising, etc.).

I am quite familiar with this as I have been seeing it everyday since when I
began doing all of this way-back in the start of the 1990's, it has become
more tuned and more intense. I have always been willing to adjust my
searches to try to weed-out what will not be wanted (or allowed, etc.) on
the evdl members. But think of the naive public, who may begin to think EVs
consume fuel and do not plug-in to ue renewable energy. Ah, that is what
they (the manufactures) wanted. Skewing what the public thinks has been the
manufacturer's tool for a very long time.

When I compare the reduction in EV newswires to the increase in non-EV
newswires (when I purposely search for h2, etc.) the volume has stayed the
same, but the subject focus has shifted away from EVs and to non-EVs.

What does all that (above) mean?
To me, it means the amount of writer staff at media outlets have not
increased (they are paid to pump whatever quantity not quality, or even
what the readers want, etc.). But the shift away from EVs to non-EVs means I
will have less to post, and it means a serious diluting of the public's
knowledge of what EVs are and are about.

While this may make those manufacturers pleased, I will keep searching. But
please don't shoot the messenger (or piano-player) for having less juicy, or
choice EV items/tidbits to post.

fyi- the main thrust of the writers on EV items seems to happen between
Wednesday and Friday. While some hot items do trickle in outside of that,
the huge copy-cat responses (from other media outlets) do not occur until
days later.

I search each and everyday anyway as some media outlets release their
stories days after it has either been in their paper print media, or first
on their on website(s). So, I will find items a few days old that were not
released until later by double or triple searching a few days back. Its a
lot of effort, but sometimes I find something that might be of interest to
evdl readers.

I find it interesting that this huge thru$t has occurred (before the
elections ) right at the time when the National Drive Electric Week 2015
https://driveelectricweek.org/events.php
(enlarge/expand the map to see this is not just a U.S.A. EVent, other
countries also have these ... )

I am happy to see that one of my local EAAev.org chapters (Silicon Valley)
has begun listing their National Drive Electric Week EVent
http://eaasv.org/event/2015-annual-ndew-rally/
2015 Annual NDEW Rally September 19 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm Free

I hope to feel well enough to attend this EVent. I will continue to be a
good boy and do my daily mild walker exercise so I will have the energy and
endurance to enjoy it for a few hours.

On a selfish note: I am beginning to look around to eventually relocate.
While I did grow up in the Silicon Valley area (long before it was called
that and when it was mostly agriculture), landlord's greed has taken its
toll in this area to where only those that can afford to live here in the
much-touted Hi-Tech version of Emerald-City, will be left (meaning I no
longer have the hp Customer-Engineer pay, and will have to move to where a
fixed-income EVangel can survive a few more years).

So who knows, I might end up enjoying my last few Internet-connected years
indoors with a VA hospital nearby, in the same (let it snow) state as MN's
Lee-Hart, or down in (lots of sun-shine) NM or AZ way, or on the east
coast's hurricane country, or somewhere in the Mid-west's tornado-alley ...
My search is far from over/concluded, so I am speaking of what may be to
come. We shall see what is to be.
