This is great news for sports car lovers.
Ever since Bentley revealed the gorgeous EXP 10 Speed 6 concept coupe and
EXP 12 Speed 6e concept convertible, we have been begging the company to
build a two-seat sports car. Unfortunately, the company had to make a choice
whether to build a new EV sports car or a smaller crossover model to slot
under the Bentayga. We were praying that Bentley would choose the sports
car, and in an interview with Autocar, Bentley boss Wolfgang Durheimer said
"a small SUV is no longer on the scheme. We’re favoring a car with a full
electric powertrain.”

This is confirmation that there won't be a smaller SUV under the Bentayga in
the lineup. We didn't think that a smaller SUV would be capable of offering
the luxury that customers want from a Bentley and we are glad that the
carmaker agrees. The electric car that Bentley will develop will likely be
based on the upcoming Porsche Mission E, so it will be bigger than the EXP12
Speed 6e concept. When talking about why the company chose an EV sports car,
Durheimer said: “We intend to be the leader in electrification in the luxury
segment. We see that it fits into the Bentley scheme – low rev torque with
seamless acceleration.”

This new sports car will be different from the concept cars that we loved,
but it should be a very impressive model. Bentley is targeting a four-wheel
drive powertrain with two motors and a 300-mile range. Bentley will also add
hybrid technology to the Bentayga, Continental and Flying Spur, but this new
EV sports car is the model we are most excited to see.
