There's no long-wheelbase model, no coupe, no two-door convertible and no station wagon. But what if you want to put on some Wellies and take your hunting dogs to tow a few ducks out of the water? Back in the U.K., commissioning station wagons based on luxury sedans was a fad for a long time, at least among those who could afford it, until luxury automakers themselves started offering large station wagons fit for the British country lifestyle. And at least one coachbuilder in the U.K. has sought to bring the longroof goodness to EV customers: Norfolk-based coachbuilder Qwest has been working on a Tesla Model S shooting brake for more than a year. The Model S is a complex car when it comes to materials -- the same reason we don't see too many aluminum Audi A8s converted by coachbuilders and armorers -- so the rear section is built from carbon fiber and bonded to the car's aluminum chassis. As you can guess, this would be far simpler if the car was made out of steel, since the roof and tail section of the Model S do not lend themselves easily to alteration. It's almost simpler to ditch the greenhouse entirely and create a new one, but then you're looking at fabricating a lot of complex parts. When it comes to design, the Tesla shooting brake is a bit squared off, featuring a mostly straight and uninterrupted roof all the way to the D-pillar. The added benefit of this approach is more room in the cargo compartment, but it does make the rear of the car pretty bulky. In any case, we're now wondering why Tesla itself hasn't offered a station-wagon variant of the Model S, but we hope there's still room in the Model 3 lineup (after Tesla makes half a million sedans to satisfy preexisting orders) to create a longroof variant. It's not the best starting point, but it is better looking than Tesla's own Model X crossover.
