Dacia has been flirting with the idea of launching electric vehicles for
quite some time now.

Speaking to AutoExpress on the sidelines of the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show,
the brand's European` Chairman, Jean Christophe Kugler, confirmed that the
automaker is interested in zero-emission technology.

Moreover, being part of the Renault-Nissan Alliance, Dacia won't have to
spread its wings to leave the nest in order to electrify their cars, and
once they do, they will "remain shockingly affordable", according to the
company's official.

"We won't change our brand territory. We will benefit from the Alliance's
strength and the proven technology, so we can fit that to a Dacia", said
Kugler. "We have all the (EV) technology read and on the shelf. Being part
of the bigger Alliance means when we need a technology, we have it. We don't
have to negotiate."

There's no official time-frame for when we will see a zero-emission Dacia,
as Kugler admitted "there is a 3 or 4 years difference between the more
advanced (Renault-Nissan) cars and the technologies we have", but they will
"look at it when it will be affordable", sticking to their current business
model until then.

The British mag speculates that a Dacia EV could use the underpinnings of
the Renault Zoe, which was updated one year ago and can travel for up to
400km (250 miles) on a single charge, by NEDC standards.

In other related news, the Romanian automaker is also interested in the
basics of 'autonomous technology', so we expect to see Dacias equipped with
adaptive cruise control, and other similar features, in the near future.
