Sustain Winona to host electric car workshop Sept. 22
Sept. 16 2016

On Thursday, Sept. 22, Winona’s Sustain Winona Partnership will host a
half-day workshop on electric vehicles and the charging infrastructure
needed to facilitate their use. This year in Minnesota, 4,000 PEV (plug-in
electric vehicle) owners will drive over 30 million gas-free miles, and this
growing market will provide opportunities for many. A tangible competitive
advantage exists for any business or non-profit that has a charging station
on-site or nearby.

Workshop attendees will receive an overview of plug-in vehicles on the
market today, and models that are coming soon. They will learn how to use
and charge plug-in vehicles and the effects on energy consumption.

Xcel Energy staff will be on hand with maps to determine what areas already
have sufficient power infrastructure for electric chargers. With the
information provided, facilities and fleet managers considering installing
charging stations should be able to determine whether or not it’s feasible
to move forward.

At the end of the workshop a discussion will be held to identify the most
desired sites for Winona’s first charging stations, and hopefully, a plan
for where additional charging stations could be located in future years.

The workshop will run from 1 to 3:30 pm at the Winona County Government
Center. Participation is free and open to the public, with an RSVP requested
by Sept. 20 to sustainwin...@sustainwinona.org.
