Re: [Evangelism] Should we be doing things like this?

2008-12-08 Thread Calvin Hendryx-Parker

Hi Karl,

It was pretty generic since it probably was meant to introduce the
topic of Drupal to new people. The WebEx webcast worked pretty well
except for the audio was very faint. I ended up calling in to the
conference bridge so I could hear anything. The back channel chat
that was on the page was nice since there were some fairly
knowledgeable folks in there, most likely from Lullabot, answering
many of the questions.

The O'Reilly moderator did a good job of picking up on questions in
the channel as they went by and they spent almost 45 minutes on
questions alone. I think that a presentation of this type that
showed off Plone in the same manner would blow Drupal out of the water
since we seam head and shoulders above them when it comes to more
enterprise features.

Cheers,
Cal

I was just introduced to Adam Oram who works for O'Reilly Media in
Cambridge.

I did end up chatting with the moderator from O'Reilly and got her
email address. We have already exchanged some emails about setting
this up for Plone. They said they were putting their webcast schedule
together right now for Q1 of next year and were going to see if there
was enough interest in Plone before moving forward. I'll keep on top
of them and follow up in a bit to we are still on their radar.

If we want this then we should probably email [EMAIL PROTECTED] and
say we want Plone webcasts!

Thanks for the summary. Just now O'Reilly has posted the webcast at
http://oreilly.com/webcasts/, so I'll be able to take a peek for myself. --

The Lullabot guys are *awesome* marketers for Drupal and spend a lot of
time and energy doing outreach for the Drupal community. In general, I
think it is wise to emulate their tactics where it is possible.

+1. The NTEN folks have been doing Diving into Plone webcasts and inviting
Jon Stahl to present.
http://www.nosi.net/projects/webinars/plone

These webcasts are specifically targeting non-profit organizations who are
considering Plone, but we could start doing them for other industry sectors
as well.

See the webinar slides from Jon's presentation on Plone for Non-Profits.

Any way we can get in with O'Reilly and do the same to a broader
market? Anyone on here know anybody over there?

There are quite a few Python folks who are in with them like Noah
