VistaPrint, the company I used to print the banners and postcard, will print
250 business cards for free in the US - you just pay for shipping. Their
quality is first-rate even for the free cards, and if you pay to upgrade the
paper quality it is even better. Much less expensive than the prices you're
seeing. Not sure how that would work for European folk but for Perl developers
in the US it is hard to beat. If you go to their site at
http://www.vistaprint.com, you'll see "Select a Country" in their top
navigation bar, and many European countries are listed. It appears they have a
similar deal - I've not looked carefully at what they offer in Europe however.
Check it out - might be a much lower cost alternative.

As for name badges for those who work a stand at a conference or event, I have
had excellent luck just designing and printing a good-looking badge using a
color printer, then running it through a simple laminator and punching a hole
in the top to attach a lanyard. Cost is next to nothing and you can make it
look very professional. One trick I learned the hard way - print the badge
twice and laminate it so that the information is the same on both sides of the
badge. They have an annoying tendency to flip over when you're wearing them and
show the backside!
