I wasn't talking about a machine translation, but a machine assisted translation. I would take the machine translated text, and edit it into idomatic English - using my knowledge of the French text and the subject to assist. Diagrams would probably be left unchanged.
It will still be a large task, perhaps taking a few months, but as I said I may do it with a little arm twisting. I wouldn't begin to do it without the machine translation to start with though! PS - I have just finished translating a 10,000 line PHP scripted website from Portugese, languages I do not know (neither Portugese nor PHP). Google was a big help, but certainly could not do it by itself.
