The nearest thing to filtered view i have seen is Opera's M2 mail
client. Unfortunately, it has poor integration with desktop :(

Do you think the iTunes/GMail GUI would work for Evolution users?

This sounds nice for existing users of gmail using evolution. Though
Opera has on lovely future , automatic creation of virtual folders based
on mailing-list, contact names, attachment, ... etc.

For Outlook user migrating to evolution, user inertia kicks in . People
would have to re-learn .

vfolders are powerful, but then, 99% of what i use vfolder is for
Opera's vfolder functionality

Have you tried out using vertical view in evolution ?
  View-Preview-Vertical view

It's just like in Lotus Notes! Cool!!! Thanks =)

 Love,
 Louise

A bit off topic. But I saw some mocku ps at planet.gnome.org for an UI
for Evolution 3.

Are there any official UI work going on for Evolution 3?

i haven't seen *any* sentence somewhere that a version 3 of evolution is
planned, so i wonder where that term/number comes from...
development of the exiting version 2 of course exists, and there is also
some planning, but not for a radical rewrite of the user-interface, as
far as i know.

cheers,

If you are looking for a radically different UI closer to GMail, do
checkout Opera's M2 mail client. Do note, it does not support many of
the features of evolution .

The ability to attach notes to a email was rather interesting . On my
wish-list . Outlook has this feature, and was rather useful to me
atleast

I have heard of people working on alternate frontends to
evolution-data-server ( backend ) to replace evolution with mulitple
different apps suitable for embedded platform (
http://pimlico-project.org/index.html )

Nice thought. I think we got to brainstorm on how this would work on
large mail boxes. But then, I would prefer if a EPlugin can be worked
out in place of the message list. More plug-able views.

And here is a screenshot of Lotus Notes with 3 vertical panes and
tabs. I really like the compact sender and subject pane.

It is already there since 2.8

Could something like that be considered for Evolution 3?

I assume Novell controls the development of Evolution?

no, dave is a customer. he does not work for novell.

I assume Novell controls the development of Evolution?

most of the evo maintainers work for novell, but evolution has also
maintainers working for redhat and openedhand.

I needs some good usability testing. It may not end-up here, may be

there is a usability list gnome usability discussion, but I'm not sure
if it falls there. Novell has a usability team that does usability
testing with different profile of users and derives results out them.
