Evolution project exports the libemail-engine and libemail-utils (which is gone now) to e-mail-factory daemon[1]. I just keeping porting it when I get sometime. Its definitely not dead and I wouldn't leave it atleast. The daemon code[1] is maintained here for the time being once we do all great, this & the library should be in EDS. It has a complete dbus api but the ideal design would be to get a eclient based one.
