Everyone, especially Milan...SUCCESS!
There was a chap over on the Gentoo forums that was very wise in gentoo-fu
that showed me a portage 'hack' on how to install gnome-control-centre
WITHOUT having to switch my machine to systemd. This man was wise which is
why I honour the gentoo forum.

No, other lists provide the feature I mentioned, for example [1].

Re the calendar...you were right, I am NOT using the gnone-online-accounts as
the .config/goa-1 directory is empty.
I have gnome-online-accounts installed but I need gnome-control-center to run
it to configure it.
But it gets more funI have to bring in half of the entire gnome tree just
to do

On Wed,
Milan!
Lots of meat here, thank you for the effort.
I will work through all of these and report back. It helps to know what is
going on under the hood.
This is why I love linux.
Cheers,

That might be a clue, for several reasons:
1) You don't need to rebuild anything. SA can just be turned off.
2) You haven't said anything about how your accounts are set up (IMAP
or POP?). This

Hi,
you normally do not need to use seahorse, neither there is any setting
except of passwords, which you shouldn't edit there anyway.

Pete did not recommend switching to Gnome for performance reasons. He

I don't spread FUD, your recommendation to switch from Xfce4 to
GNOME, to get rid of performance issues is unworldly. I'm not pro Xfce4
and con GNOME3. Btw. the machines hardware isn't the only thing you
need to take into account. Resources could be required for other

Sorry, I'm going to top post this.
I have never had an issue with the performance of Gnome. I have never
heard of a serious performance issue with Gnome other than with
seriously underpowered machines. I run Gnome under Fedora on a Core
Duo laptop with 2Gb memory without too many problems. The

Thank you for the tips.
Yes, I am using GOA. I edit the settings using seahorse.
As my account uses the Google two step verification process (they send you an
sms on your hand phone to authenticate you in addition to your password) I
had to create an app passwordwhich I did. This is
Hi,
actually all GTK3 apps start with a black box, before the widgets are
added. This is noticeable, but shouldn't take a second or more, but in
a split second, there is a visible black box, even on systems that
perform excellent. This doesn't happen with GTK2 or Qt or anything
else. It'sd a well
