I am using Evolution 3.22.2 in Debian testing.
If I set Global Dark Theme 'on' in Tweak Tools, or if I set the GTK+
theme to Blackbird, then every time I 'reply' to a message with a white
body, Evolution changes it so it has a dark theme: dark background,
light text etc.

You are correct: I had a 'jessie' repository mixed in with all
'stretch' ones. My system is actually on stretch, and my Evolution is
v3.18.2. When I removed the jessie repository, Synaptics showed me no
evolution-ews at all, consistent with what you suggested. I guess I
will just have to wait
I am on Debian Jessie. Should I be able to use an Exchange server by
setting it up in Gnome Online Accounts, or do I need to install other
packages first?

My Evolution was freezing, requiring a restart. I upgraded from Debian
Jessie to Debian Stretch. It was worthwhile: the Evolution v 3.16.3
included in Debian Stretch works well for IMAP Mail, Contacts
(OwnCloud) and Calendar (OwnCloud and iCloud). :-)
Autocomplete of addresses during message composition in Evolution is
generally slow for me, and in common usage can freeze, and/or stop
working, and can cause my WebDAV address book to re-download the
complete book from the WebDAV server. Re-download of my 2,700 entries
takes time (10 minutes+),
Milan: thank you, but I am struggling in trying to carry out your
suggestions. I had to install gdb, then launch Evolution, then run the
command you suggest in Terminal. The bt.txt file begins with this:

Just to add that this is also happening with Evolution 3.12.2 (to which Debian
Jessie updated today).
Same problem: works at first, but attempting to edit entered characters
provokes a freeze of more than a minute and the WebDAV address book starts
downloading again from empty.
