The IMAP IDLE extension allows conforming servers (e.g. Cyrus, Gmail, ...) to notify clients of new mail, without the latter having to poll them. It's a Good Thing (tm). It seems that support for the IDLE extension was planned for Evo 2.24 but didn't make it. It's now on the roadmap for 2.26.
