[Evolution] Evolution 3.32.1-2 solves problems with prior version used with Ubuntu 18.10

2019-04-18 Thread Dr. John H. Lauterbach
Ubuntu 19.04 was just released. It comes with Evolution 3.32.1-2. This new
version of Evolution solves "string" errors with some mail servers as well as a
send error with another. Well worth the upgrade to Ubuntu 19.04

That's a canned response. Messages over the limit of 40KB will not be
approved by the current moderators, of whom I am one. The solution is
to use a pastebin service and include a link in your message.

Hi,

that's a misunderstanding.

Is it an IMAP or a POP account?

[Evolution] Blocked by auto-moderator

2019-04-18 Thread Jason Franklin via evolution-list
Greetings,

I sent an email to this list a few days ago that was blocked by the
auto-mod. The email was over the size limit due to screenshots that I
provided to show my problem. The email I received said the human-mod
would look at it and that I would hear back.

I haven't heard back, and I haven't seen the email show up on this list
yet.

Please advise.

Thanks,

Why would you expect to find it in your home directory? It should be

That page simply notes that you can check the location of recent
accesses, including those flagged as "suspicious". It says nothing
about such accesses being blocked, and if they were blocked I would
expect to be notified of the same by email, which is what Google does
for any security-related event.

I frequently used Gmail from all sorts of places, including public
spaces, friends houses, on my mobile devices, in different countries,
etc. and have never seen a blockage of this kind.

I can imagine that if that occurred during the migration process it
might cause an issue and leave the Evolution local files in a confused
state.

Perhaps you could try restoring the original files from backup to a new
*Linux* account and allow Evolution to upgrade those files to make sure
it works. If it does then it might be worth while removing the
Evolution data and config and transferring the info from the correctly
upgraded version (using the backup/restore function in Evolution).

"pdfarranger.desktop" is legitimate (the new name for pdfshuffler), but
I can't find "display-im6.q16.desktop" anywhere in my home
directory, using: find . -name *.desktop

Hi,
Evolution relies on the data returned from glib's gio, which might be
quite the same as what you see from the above command. I've no idea
where it gets it from. Does the list of available applications shown in
Evolution match the list returned from `git mime`? Could there be a
leftover Foxit .desktop file (not necessarily named foxit.desktop) in
the system? What about that pdfarranger.desktop or
display-im6.q16.desktop? Those look suspicious/custom.

Re: [Evolution] lost local folders when migrating data

Hi,
that's the backup evolution was talking about before the migration. You
can see it in Edit->Preferences->Mail Accounts too.

> When I click on it, it reveals no contents.

This is odd. The listing you gave suggests it's a maildir structure,
thus what really had been in ~/.local/share/evolution/mail/local/. You
mentioned a power failure, maybe the account is not set properly. You
can create a new mail account of type "Maildir-format mail directories"
and point it to this backup, which should show you the files again. If
not, then delete the folders.db file from that folder (or rather more
it away) and start evolution, which will recreate it.

I do not know why you've been asked for the migration, that might be
some fault on the disk or something. The content of the "..maildir++"
file in there is important. A similar file should be seen in the
~/.local/share/evolution/mail/local/.

Re: [Evolution] evolution -i (import)

Hi,
there are no additional options for the command line. From within UI,
you can use keys like ""
then find and select the (next) file, then "", which will move
you to the destination folder, which is derived from the Mail view, in
case of the mail import. Then just "" and that's it. The
Alt+XXX works in the en_US locale. Your locale can have different
mnemonics set.

You did not mention what kind of files you are trying to import. Being
it mails, I'd probably copy them to one directory on the disk, then
create a new Mail Account of type "Standard Unix mbox spool directory",
or "Maildir-format mail directories", or "MH-format mail directories"
(depending of the format of the files in that folder), which will
provide you with all those messages in a new account, which you can
move or copy in batches to the folders you'd like to have them in. I
suggest to copy the files in a new directory to have backup of those
old, just in case something would went wrong.
Bye,
Milan
