Great idea, except that Bestcrypt doesn't have a "whole disk" encryption method for Linux/Unix. So I'm stuck with per-volume encryption. As a sysadmin, I understand what you are saying, but you need to understand that GUI desktops are personal, it is inappropriate to store user specific configuration in /etc - /etc is for system wide configuration. > > It's driving me nuts with Evolution, because I want it to store my > email, calaendar, and its own configuration on an encrypted volume. I would strongly advise that you just encrypt the whole laptop - it saves having to think about what you want to put where. ... such as configuration, email, calendars, etc? And is it possible to configure it to change the locaation? Some background: I've been using Unix of various flaavors, including Linux, for decades, but at the command line. (Herding servers.) I recently got a new Ubuntu laptop, so have encountered a Linux GUI for the first time. (Gnome) I'm finding GUI programs don't seem to store files where I expect (in ${HOME} or in /etc for configuration). It's driving me nuts with Evolution, because I want it to store my email, calaendar, and its own configuration on an encrypted volume. (I use Jetico bestcrypt). So I need to know where it stores stuff, and where its configuration files re, to figure this out. Hi, could there be created a new folder on the server? You can run Evolution as this: $ CAMEL_DEBUG=imapx:io evolution to see the raw IMAP communication. Ideally have enabled only one IMAP account, if you've more, to not have interleaved the output from different accounts. I guess the server returns something in a LIST or LSUB response what tricks the libcamel (part of the evolution-data- server). It would be interesting to see whether the current stable version (3.40.0) will also misbehave on that. Maybe if you could give a try to a prebuilt Flatpak version from Flathub [1], which might be the easiest way to do test it. Note the Flatpak version is not integrated with the rest of the desktop the same way as the native version. [Evolution] Problem setting up iCloud account in Evolution - Folder parse error
Hi Setup details below: Linux Mint 20.1 Evolution 3.36.4 with evolution-ews installed via package Manager Issue When trying to sync iCloud account (via IMAP) I get "Error retrieving folder list for "username" / Error fetching folders: Parse Error (took 0ms)" and no folders for the account are displayed in the folder tree. It worked fine yesterday. I can access the email account via Thuderbird fine. I deleted everything including configs and started from scratch. No luck. Any help greatly appreciated. Re: [Evolution] Hotmail, Gmail token refresh
Hi, thanks for those suggestions. Sure it looks like a network issue, but not only. For any unknown reason some apps loose DNS. But also the authorization token seems lost and force to restart the computer. Then most of the time it works fine but one time I had to re-setup all accounts ... and lost some archives... If it saysanything like "Name or service not known", then it can be aconnection/DNS problem. Go to Edit->Preferences->Network Preferencesand verify the proxy settings. There's also an option how to detect theonline state. I'm afraid it won't help, though, especially when theproblem is lower in the stack (like in the DNS), which might influencethe connection itself, not only the online state detection. The date is truly meant as a date, not date and time. The usual vCard format is "1970-06-09" (quotes for clarity only). > 2. If a date is set, is this date also noted in the calendar? It gathers the information from the selected address books; right-click the calendar in the Calendar view and pick Properties, where you can choose which books are included and which not. The same option is available in the Properties of the respective books. [Evolution] Evolution Object Attribute "birthDate"
Hello, my contact details (for example birthday) are managed in the LDAP. Evolution accesses this data. I added the "evolutinperson.schema" to the LDAP. Now to my questions: 1. I cannot change the birthday in Evolution. The field is gray and not active. Only when I give the field a date with an LDAP client will the date be displayed in Evolution. Assuming the date is created in the following format (1970-06-09T00: 00: 00) 2. If a date is set, is this date also noted in the calendar? I know that from Outlook? If this is not done that way, what option do I have to set it up accordingly? Thank you very much in advance for your support.
