Rest assured that the mailing lists hosted on mail.gnome.org are
technically also "under control of a single authority" - the same one.

That's neither logical nor based on a correct assumption. It's not
about "banning users with unwanted opinions" but about Code of Conduct.

I retroactively apologize that we had a Points system in GNOME Bugzilla
(before GitLab) which gave an impression how experienced and active a
user is. Must have been pretty horrible if I understand you correctly.

We also ban users in GNOME GitLab etc if they violate the GNOME Code of
Conduct. There are many universes out there, nothing new.

Errm, no. Just because people want to do something doesn't mean "GNOME"
(whatever that means exactly) needs to do the same something.
There were GNOME applications for watching TV or listening to internet
radio stations. That doesn't mean GNOME should launch its own station.

For the records, GNOME Core does not provide an email client.[1]
GNOME World however provides several ones, like Evolution or Geary.[2]

No, because an IRC channel on GIMPnet IRC called #evolution has already
existed for decades and has been part of the user documentation for at
least a decade. No need for such proposals and more fragmentation.

And that IRC channel is bridged to Matrix/Element for those who prefer

That's off-topic (as Evolution doesn't use GTK version 4).

Feels similar to https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/geary/-/issues/1308

Evolution relies on enchant2 for spell-checking (which in turn relies
on other libraries). If there was some backend using a Grammarly web
API then it would have to be implemented lower in the software stack.

You could run under valgrind and/or gdb to find the offending code,
write a patch, and apply it after compiling the software yourself.

FYI I have seen this myself a few times in Evolution 3.42.x.
The message preview pane freezes. Not Evolution; not the machine.
Disabling and enabling it via Ctrl+M does not help.
Restarting Evolution helps. Haven't found any pattern; also has
happened with local mail on non-remote (POP) mail accounts.
No high CPU usage. Wayland; mesa drivers, Fedora 35.

Isn't everything that's not "pretty much everything" kind of failing
then, especially if not every software was written "nowadays"? :)

(Furthermore, CSV is a flow of random interpretable bytes with some
commas inbetween, with no other structure at all. Stuff like VCard/VCF
for contacts would be way more suitable.)

I hope not. CSV is one of the most broken and error-prone formats out
there (no proper character encoding info, etc) if you don't know ASCII-

I don't see anything font related here.
If the system theme that you use is broken and does not offer an
expander arrow, then you may want to change your system theme to a
system theme that is not broken. This does not sound related to
Evolution to me. Evolution uses the system theme.

I do not see any font issue in the screenshot (and cannot follow).
However I see different icon themes. The icon theme depends on your
system settings and distribution. It is nothing in Evolution itself.

Evolution's data structure is not necessarily backwards compatible.
Thus I assume that some database scheme has changed between versions.

You can either go back to E3.28/U18.04 and use the latest Evolution
backup file that you created from/in/with that very Evolution version.

Or you could use E3.44/U22.04 and not run into this problem.
If I understand correctly. (Because it remains unclear which steps you
performed in which order with data in which location - local, backup?)

Hmm, how and where did you search? Asking out of curiosity.

"Dark mode emails" do not exist. I assume you explicitly set a dark
background color for the HTML formatted emails that you compose, so
that's also what the recipient will receive, if the recipient likes it
or not (I do not like it).

That's a good question for your distribution and their "dark mode".

I still have no idea what a "WebDriver" or webkit2gtk-driver is. :)

Evolution depends on WebKitGTK. I think Ubuntu calls their WebKitGTK
package "libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37" for reasons that only Ubuntu knows.

If Ubuntu's Evolution package had no dependency on that package, then
this would be something to discuss with Ubuntu packagers to fix that.

We don't know what some "WebDriver support" is. So it probably does not
matter whether you install that thingy or not. And I'm not sure why
this was asked here if it's unrelated to Evolution.

Probably correct assumption. Backup is not meant as a sync function:
It's a backup function. To keep things in sync between machines, use a
protocol that allows syncing, such as IMAP instead of POP.

How can Evolution semantically know that the message came from within
some "group"? Are there any specific mail headers to filter on?

If a contact list is just a bunch of random email addresses, and one of
those email addresses sends a message to you, that message might be
within the scope/context of that "group" but it also might not be.

You could set up filters based on email addresses or other headers but
it all depends on what a "group" is and how to identify that context.

Some one account may allow accessing mail, calendar, contacts, etc on

This likely is not a problem in Evolution itself.
Does it work in other GNOME applications, like Nautilus? If not, then
please bring this up in a support forum of your distribution.

No, and this is not an issue in Evolution itself. See

I hope not. This is what system-wide themes are for, so all GNOME

Evolution has no default "green/yellow".
This is defined by the theme that you use in your Linux distribution.
Please bring this up in a support forum of your Linux distribution.

Why do you think that's Evolution? Spam folder of what exactly, and

You could downgrade whatever you recently upgraded on your distro (very
probably WebKitGTK), and file a bug in the issue tracker of your
distribution so your distribution can fix its bugs.

It seems unlikely to me that KDE depends on WebKit*GTK* (emphasis on
GTK), as it uses the QT toolkit and not the GTK toolkit.
The packagers of your distribution should know best.
