it depends.
Perhaps, there could exist an assumption that there are two types of shops.
It consultant shops, and product specialist shops.
The shop that only considers one solution is a product specialist.

All,
I've asked a similar question before, but that was 5.5 - 2000 and we didn't
end up moving. So:
I'm looking to move from 5.5 - 2003. At the end of the process I'll be
running 2003 on the same physical box I'm now running 5.5 on. However, I
don't want to do an in place upgrade so I'll be
I would search the MS Exchange site for deployment scenario's and what is
allowed and not allowed as far as in-place verses move method. There are
probably more steps you haven't considered.

I left out, the root of my question though is Does it matter which box is

Well, things are starting to wind down here for the long Christmas Break (5
days is a long time for me!!). I am hoping and praying that none of the
servers start singing, RAID arrays roasting on an open fire and that we
all get some much needed time with our friends and families.

of migrating from 5.5/nt40 to exch2k3/win2k3. Copied new dsproxy.dll did not
help.

OK, I can be childish as well.
You PROVE
Install Exchange 2003 on the new box and then move mailboxes to it. The
other way is more work and you don't get any benefit. Don't forget all the
preparatory steps like the ADC, ForestPrep, and DomainPrep.

Upgrade to Exchange 2003 using the swing server method. Skip Exchange 2000
entirely. Exchange 2003 is superior in just about every way and why do the
upgrade twice?
