Also, I think if he deletes the email before a backup takes place, he really
is SOL.

I find it useful to have Deleted Item Retention for my organization. I know
several other people do as well. It won't hurt your Exchange Server.

If you don't have it and some VP shift deletes an email and tells you it's
imperative that you get it back, you'll have too options:

1. Restore the entire server to an alternate recovery box.
2. Tell the VP "Tough luck jackass. You're SOL."

If you can do option #2 every time this happens, then no, it's not a bad
thing to set DIR to 0. If you can't, then you really should consider
setting it to something other than 0.

S.

sorry took so long to get back. Yes, I did set it to 0 Andy and I thought
if I did this it would delete all the mail in the deleted items retention. I
also found out where the mail was it was in the recover deleted items
retention. Also if I set it up for 0 is that bad? Thanks for helping me
finding it.

Rich

Don't be silly, Andy.

*It seemed like a good idea at the time.*

I cannot find where my users deleted items are and it still shows that there
is 256,000 k in the Private information store under the deleted items K
column.
