If you made the new box a DC you could be having issues that the DNS is now setup as a
root server. If you go into dns and see a . zone, delete it and that will let it
search the real root servers for internet IP's.

What I think you did, is you installed the second server as a Stand-Alone
server, and you intend to keep the external DNS server for your domain on
it. Of course, you don't want this DNS service to talk to the internal DNS
service, since you don't want your private IPs gone public.
