attxxxxx.dat attachments when sending to Lotus Notes

Has anyone noticed a problem when sending from Exchange to Lotus Notes users that they receive attx.dat attachments (where x is some code like 9ui30 etc.) I couldn't find anything useful on the net. thanks Uso _ List
