pretty straght forward to write a script which did an ADSI query based
on something like the users SMTP

How about adding the Exchange Mailbox Store column in the AD users and
computers snapin? There is also a Home-MDB
Look in the user properties under Active Directory or in the x5.5 administrator.
E2k: Look on the exchange general tab of the user properties
x5.5: look for the home server attribute on the user's mailbox.
