I am trying to test authenication on a IMAP connection of a E2K server in a
front-end back-end topology.
When I telnet to the port I enter LOGIN or AUTHENTICATE, and I get a bad
statement error.
Is there a pre authenication statement I ma missing?
It's not helo.

Perhaps you are using the improper syntax?
Try typing 'a001 LOGIN SMITH SESAME where smith is the username and sesame
is the password.
RFC1730 described the additional commands in some detail as well.

You should be able to *view* contacts from Outlook as long as Use
microsoft rich text format is checked on the IMAP virtual server
properties. You won't be able to make updates to them or add new ones
however. It will still display as an email folder, but once the items in
it are fully
There is if you use Ximian Evolution.

Turn on relaying, but require authentication. Hopefully, the wireless devices can
authenticate.

Go look at the profile for the client [mailboxname]. See
what's funny -
ie. They're hitting the mailbox using MAPI and IMAP within the same
profile, with both trying to deliver to PST... Don't just fix it -
delete it and build it properly from scratch using only the
services you
need.

IMAP only groks e-mails. Not contacts. I use LDAP to get to the GAL and I
exported my Contacts folder to a pst and imported them into my Outlook at
home.
Not perfect, but it works

Did you create replicas of the folders on the new server and wait for them
to replicate? Did you change the home public folder server setting on the
user's mailbox server?
