As often as necessary. They'll keep growing until you do a successful backup, at which point they will be purged. Everything that your users do gets written to the log files and then gets committed to the database. So, your users are generating 5 MB worth of changes every 5 to 10 minutes.

5-10 minutes? That's terrible! It should be every 12 minutes! Those are transaction logs. They are created as email traffic is created. Someone sends that 100MB mpeg of Scharff in a pink dress (you know the one!) then the transaction logs will be created a little faster than that... William
