S/MIME in OWA

All, Quick question...how do you install S/MIME support for OWA on Exchange 2000? I have it setup for the client side. But I'm having some problems getting it to work through OWA. Thanks, _ John Bowles Exchange Engineer OIG/HHS [EMAIL PROTECTED

S/MIME for Exchange 2000 OWA is not supported - that is, there is no option to digitally encrypt or sign using OWA. Exchange 2003 allows you to download and install the S/MIME control for IE, but Exchange 2000 does not have this feature. By you having it set up for the client side, I assume you

I believe that as long as both parties are using S/MIME you can just exchange Certificates and put the other government agencies certificates in your trusted list in KMS. It still requires that you use Outlook and Contacts to hold their public key. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong

Note that the certs appear not to work within the organization because the Exchange server won't let you send S/MIME to an address for which it has not generated the certificate. This is, as my

enabling S/Mime support

I have a quick question. I work in a large Exchange 5.5 sp4 shop with multiple sites and IMCs. We have a number of clients that want to use S/Mime and we currently don't have it enabled on the IMCs. Is there any drawback to enabling S/MIME support in Exchange 5.5 SP4? Thanks for any help

No. The only reason that checkbox on the IMC is there is in case you have clients that are pre-Outlook 98. If you do, you may want to strip S/MIME so that those clients don't get confused. Nowadays, this is almost never an issue. The default has changed in Exchange 2000 to allow S/MIME
