Re: Need Help Restoring a Deleted pub.edb in 5.5
FOLDERS RESTORED! Thanks again for your help! Boy, do I feel stupid! Please don't pile on -- I'm suffering enough SHAME and GUILT already... Here's my sad story: On the Friday after Thanksgiving (office closed, I thought I would show a little initiative and finally do that ESEUTIL work I had been putting off for 18 months. I had shut down Exchange and copied my on my 8gb priv.edb and 11mb pub.edb to a backup hard drive. Because the ESEUTIL process aborted halfway through the process on priv.edb, I decided to instead just put things back the way they were and go home to discuss the day's tragic events with my good friend JACK DANIELS. :) (Maybe I will revisit ESEUTIL over the Christmas holidays, but that's another story.) Anyway, when I came back to work on Monday, I started getting reports that the Public Folders were gone. For reasons still unknown to me, I must have either MOVED or DELETED pub.edb from its original location. Exchange had evidently rebuilt a pub.edb file, but it was just 2 mb with no visbile data and only a couple of default folders. (The original entries for the Public Folders were still showing up in Exchange Administrator for what it's worth.) I found the copy of 11 mb pub.edb that I had made on Friday. What is the best/easiest procedure for a moron like myself to get the file back into Exchange? _ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Web Interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/cgi-bin/lyris.pl?enter=exchangetext_mode=lang=english To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

No, that might be necessary. You'll get an event log entry if it is necessary. It isn't necessary for Exchange 2000 and 2003. RE: Need Help Restoring a Deleted pub.edb in 5.5
Have people stored any new info in the public folders since then? No. This is not a concern. If you slide the old pub.edb in there, the new work will be gone. You probably will be better off restoring that old pub.edb to another server (in a separate Exchange organization) and then exporting/importing data from that other server to the production server. Only 1 Exchange Server in this organization. If it is as easy as just sliding the file back to MDBDATA, that would be excellent. RE: Need Help Restoring a Deleted pub.edb in 5.5
Take a full online backup. Shut down the Information Store cleanly. Take a full offline backup (so you have a backup copy in case you do something stupid again--Sorry, I couldn't resist) of the full Information Store, both private and public stores. Take another if you want to be really sure. Delete the log files. Replace the pub.edb file with the old one. That ought to work. HELP E2k and E2k3
Hi I have a single Exchange 2000 server that used the default SMTP VS to deliver and pick up internet mail from a smart host. Which worked fine. I wanted to upgrade to E2k3, so installed a new second server and installed E2k3 on this. Install worked fine. I moved a test user to the new server. This test user is able to send mail messages out but is unable to recieve messages from the Internet. The sender gets a NDR saying undiliverable because of a mail loop , Status: 4.4.6. I also noticed that messages between the two servers is being sent out to the smart host by the first E2k server and keeps looping. Do I have to configure the default SMTP VS on the second E2k3 server? OR do I remove the smart host settings from the 1st server and configure a SMTP Connector to send and receive Internet mail from the smart host.? Help Please. RE: Can anybody help with this ?
RoadRunner is notorious for blocking blocks of IP address. Your NDR should include a URL referring you back to rr. All you can do is get your ISP to email them and hope that rr releases the block. We went through this 3 months ago and it took 2 months for rr to release it. rules and filtering on un-deliverable messages, help please.
Sorry if this is posted posted twice I got a error back the first time because of subject. Ok I've not figured out a way to filter on the exception/undeliverable report or informaion contained in it. This is how we have it configured and working so I do get the messages: We Collect e-mails that are bounced for several web servers we have that send e-mail notices from web page visits requesting additional info or when items become available or is ordered (so the addresses are stored in a DB). So when we send e-mail and it gets bounced at the server all of these get forwarded to a special account on our exchange server then sorted into folders (Sort by from address in originally message) for each server and DB. Thanks - I did contact PSS and have had great service in the past but their SLA for a consultant to get back to you is four hours so I thought someone might be able to assist in the interim. Anyway, it seems the issue was related to our AV software. In the early stages, I stopped the AV services but the issue was not resolved until I actually uninstalled the software. Change to an event's view in the calendar or a phone list view in contacts. Then, through the Field Chooser, add the Modified field (you'll have to scroll down to All Calendar/Contact Fields), and sort by that. You'll find a group that were all modified consecutively, which is the result of the sync. Don't worry - first time this happened to me it was only my CIO. -- Roger D. Hi Tony and thanks for the reply. I also have a Advnet.net account that gets the same bounce when sending directly to the Exchange server (@exmail.macombisd.org). Our DNS points exmail.macombisd.org to 64.88.83.251. The reverse DNS lookup points to xmail1 (name of the server). Hope this makes some kind of sense. Just to be semantically correct, POP servers don't receive mail, they listen for client requests related to retrieving mail via a POP3 enabled client. SMTP servers receive mail, they then either deliver it locally or forward it to another host. -Original Message- From: Bridges, Samantha [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Posted At: Monday, September 22, 2003 11:13 AM Posted To: swynk Conversation: Help - Relay?? I had the Mailguard disabled on the PIX. This is interesting thoughI can receive just fine from my test Hotmail account. However, I cannot receive from Yahoo or Advnet.net. RE: Creating an automated Bulletin Board System HELP
THat is the direction I'd prefer to go. However: We are migrating from a mainframe mail system that has a Bulletin Board feature. They want me to duplicate the feature. When you subscribe to their BB, you get any new messages to the BBs that you subscribed to. I'm trying to figure out how I can manipulate exchange and or outlook (through forms) to interact with Active Directory. I envision this: A user opens a subscription form. They choose the BB they want to subscribe to and enter their username. The form adds that username to a distribution list. That distribution list is set as the Forward recipient for that BB (Public Folder) When someone posts to the BB, everyone in the Dist list gets a copy. Sound OK? _ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Web Interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/cgi-bin/lyris.pl?enter=exchangetext_mode=lang=english To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Or maybe it was a filter... This is a weird problem. I hope I have described it well enough for it to make sense... This site had 3 servers: Server 1 - NT4 SP6A Echange 5.5 SP4 - set to be retired Server 2 - 2000 SP3 Echange 5.5 SP4 - Migrated from another domain using Move Server Wizard. No Public Folder Store. Server 3 - 2000 SP3 Echange 5.5 SP4 Rehomed PF's on server 1 to server 3 Stopped the services on server 1 for serveral days then removed it according to KB article - 152959 (removing first server..) Server still connected to the network. Everyone was happy and could access the PF's they needed until we took server1 offline. People on server 2 started having Outlook hang on starting. Plugged the server back in without Exchange services running - problem dissapears. Makes no sense, so I have re-checked that I removed Server 1 correctly from the org and checked the home server and replica information on the PF's that were rehomed. Next, created a Public Information Store on Server 2 and added replicas of the PF's that were rehomed to server 3 - Should not be necessary, but nothing was making sense. Same problem still. We have monitored the connections coming into server 1 and have determined that when the clients on Server 2 start Outlook their machines do try to connect to server 1 Thanks for any help. Build them new Outlook profiles (or dig in the current profile definitions in the registry, find references to the old server and replace with new server). For some reason Outlook did not automatically switch to using the new server. I have see this happen before. I don't know why it does that. Does the mailbox store on server 2 point to 3 for public folders? Sometimes when I've seen this, we've had to refresh the profile. Exchange Server 2000 / 2003 Phonebook ASP Help
I am looking for the best way to have an ASP script pull the phone and user information out of Active Directory so the information on the users can be used to populate a phone listing in Exchange 2000 public folder. I've been looking and can't find the information that I KNOW is out there. It wasn't that hard to do for Exchange 5.5 a few years ago, but I can't find the code I had discovered and modified. RE: Exchange Server 2000 / 2003 Phonebook ASP Help
Care to learn Perl? Net::LDAP makes it easy (well, as easy as LDAP gets...) to get the info out of AD. You could write it as a comma delimited file, and use Outlook to import it to the public folder. Or you could use Win32::OLE to access MAPI functions to sync AD and the public folder. Although I will say that MAPI is sorta ugly when used to manage contact information. While I don't have anything close to what you want, I do have some samples for doing LDAP against AD and I've done a wee bit of MAPI stuff too. Let me know if you want it. -Original Message- From: Mr Budge [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, September 16, 2003 3:15 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: Exchange Server 2000 / 2003 Phonebook ASP Help I am looking for the best way to have an ASP script pull the phone and user information out of Active Directory so the information on the users can be used to populate a phone listing in Exchange 2000 public folder. ESEUTIL /R WON'T RUN!! HELP!!
My Exchange 2k post-SP3 server seems to run OK, but the information store cannot be backed up. It fails, repeatedly, with corrupt file errors. Multiple reboots, including chkdsk /f, don't help. A mailbox-level backup (courtesy of BackupExec v9) seems to work fine. I'm fairly confident that all of the user's items are protected by the mailbox-level backup. HOWEVER - as you probably guessed, the inability to complete a store backup means that the .LOG files are piling up. In fact, there are something on the order of 3900+ .LOG files, each exactly 5.12MB, in the MDBDATA folder!! So, I ran ESEUTIL /R as part of the trouble-shooting process. After 160-odd minutes, ESEUTIL exited with the following message: Operation terminated with error -614 (JET_errCheckpointDepthTooDeep, too many outstanding generations between checkpoint and current generation) after 9678.31 seconds. Searching Google Web and Google Groups for the phrase too many outstanding generations gets no results. Since a Google Web search includes the Microsoft KnowledgeBase, I think I've got a very rare problem on my hands. What do I do now? There are only 50-odd users on this server. Do I have the option of backing up to .PST, then creating a new information store? What do I do to delete the old store, so that it doesn't interfere with the new store? RE: ESEUTIL /R WON'T RUN!! HELP!!
Your checkpoint file is way behind in marking the logs that have been played into the store. This typically happens when a backup doesn't let go of the .chk file. Best option is to delete the .chk file and fix the backup issue. If you run an eseutil /mk exx.chk, you will see the logfile that it thinks was the last one to be played in vs the current logfile generation. They are probably at least 1000 behind (that's when this error occurs). The only issue with deleting the .chk file is that it will force your system to replay through all logs since it doesn't know where to start since the .chk is gone. My situation: In order to support a new subsidiary company, we have created a new child domain under our single domain forest which also contains our Exchange 2000 organization. Everything is running in Exchange 2000 SP3 except the domain controllers which are all running SP4. My Problem: I can create users in the new domain in AD Users and Computers including creating the mailbox and configuring the mailbox properties. But when I attempt to log that user in to Exchange with Outlook, I get The name could not be resolved. The name could not be matched to a name in the address list. Also, when I look in the GAL I don't see this user (we're using the same GAL for now) and I don't see a mailbox in ESM in our information store. There are pros cons for these 2 methods. Rule wizard - give user's flexibility to turn on the out of office redirect their emails to elsewhere.
