Hi Ian,
I downloaded it and got it up yesterday on LM8 with no problems at all.
I've used their prior versions and never had a problem that wasn't covered
in their docs (excellent, btw).  No support for my SBLive! in my guest OS
but that's probably Creative's fault.  I recommend VMWare highly.
Performance was a little sluggish with KDE running at the same time.  I
switched to Windowmaker and it's great.  Only issue with VMWare I'd warn you
about is its voracious appetite for RAM- try to give your guest OS 200+ megs
if possible.  RAM's cheap though.

hello all

I notice on the VMware website that they have a new version to support 2.4.x

kernels. Anyone experimented with this yet? (I've just downgraded to LM 7.2 
after failing to get VMware working with 8.0, and don't want to upgrade
again 
until I'm sure it'll work).
