Is there a way to setup the DNS server to point a domain name to IP
address A and if the machine at IP A goes down, the DNS would then
point to IP address B?

here's my problem: I just bought un domain name but I have an adsl
connection with a dinamic ip. I use dyndns service for a long time to
connect on my box.
I can use a public dns (from a company I know) to add my domain. Is it
possible to configure the dns (bind 8) with my dyndns name
foo.org IN CNAME foo.dyndns.org.
That said, I might recommend you look into DYNDNS' domain hosting
services. I believe they offer to host a domain's DNS with dynamic
updates for fairly cheap. It is really no different that the normal
DYNDNS service other than you machine resides in its own
