If we all put our hearts together we cam make it possible for both clinics
to stay open. The admin team tries to hide the financial stress from me, so
my focus can be mommy and baby care... But they had to break down last night
and ask me to ask everyone for help. You have been here and know our day to

June 2007 – a plea from Ibu Robin...
Again we lost a baby June 3rd. He was born easily and joyfully at Bumi
Sehat Bali, so wished for, a first child to a shockingly poor family. As
something was very wrong I took him into Neonatal intensive care. X rays
showed he had multiple birth defects of his bones and his poor heart was not
strong enough to maintain his life. Little Putu lived 9 hours. That night I
received 5 babies. At sunset we buried Putu and rushed back to the Bumi
clinic to deliver two more babies before finally resting. I have not even
been able to cry. I feel angry at POVERTY.
Our situation at Bumi Sehat is getting a little desperate as we have
enough in the bank to support the Aceh and the Bali clinics for exactly 3
more months. I am asking all my friends to help if they can, while we
diligently apply for grants. The problem with grants is that the Tsunami is
not in the news, so no one has the inspiration to fund the Aceh clinic. The
bombings in Bali have destroyed the economy here, but no one really feels
how profoundly this effects pregnant women and new mothers. For the most
part Bumi Sehat survives upon the generosity of regular people, who give
until it hurts. I am embarrassed to ask my friends one more time for help,
but I must.
