[FairfieldLife] 2006?
2006 is COMING! It will be bleak. Be prepared. Why pay sky-high prices today, when an historic FIRE SALE is coming? FUNDAMENTAL PICTURE: US Dollar, War economy, Housing Bubble and Inflation. Interest rates will continue to increase, unless they can't because the US economy is too weak Real estate has peaked. The US Dollar, after the current rally cycle, will continue its secular decline unless things change. The real financial costs and consequences of the Iraq War and the War on Terror will be realized: It is like focusing on the more than 1500 dead and not counting the well over 15,000 seriously wounded. The future costs to the Veterans administration, military equipment replacement, and the higher cost of recruiting is NOT properly factored in. Corporate earnings will decline, especially as financial engineering and other such profits decline due to high interest rates. Increased inflation due to a declining US Dollar and the after effects of a vastly increased monetary supply. Budget deficits and trade deficits will continue at or near record levels. Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: :propagandizing the NY Times- David Lynch Article- link attached
All in all, though, the NYT's article is quite good. And the modification of the article in the GGN is just typical TMO bullshit.bbrigante [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: --- In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, "feste37" wrote: It's the headline in Global Good News that's misleading. The article itself is clearly a report ABOUT the NYT article. That's quite different. Of course they've mentioned the good bits and omitted the so-so bits. There's nothing wrong in that. But the headline shouldn't have been chosen to make it appear that it was a reprinted article from the NY Times. Perhaps this was just incompetence rather than a deliberate attempt to mislead, since the article itself clearly indicates that it is GGN's report about the NYT article, not the article itself. *Nevertheless, I don't like this stuff at all, because it is not useful for the TMO. Everybody who read the NYT article, a much larger audience than GGN, saw that there were problems, like the student who backed off because of the too-high instruction fee for TM. So what this amounts too is one TMer telling the rest of the choir that everything is coming up roses, but it ain't. There are TMers who read GGN and won't go to the NYT article, and may think that it accurately reflects the article -- this head in the sand approach can't be useful, and I doubt if the NYT editors like this stuff, either, because it amounts to altering the article to fit an agenda. If you're going to have a NYT headline, you should accurately reflect the content, or at least have a hot link to the article: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/11/14/giving/14koppel.htmlBob Brigantehttp://geocities.com/bbrigante FROM GLOBAL GOOD NEWS Earth's future peacemakers just need a little TM by Lily Koppel The New York Times Translate This Article 14 November 2005 On 14 November 2005 The New York Times reported: Filmmaker David Lynch is raising money to make the Transcendental Meditation Programme available to students from first grade through college. New York Times reporter Lily Koppel said that Lynch wants to make the simple mental technique 'a standard in every student's curriculum'. It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life- supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring fulfilment to the field of world-peace. Although often described as 'notoriously reclusive', Lynch has stepped into the public spotlight by founding the David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and has embarked on a speaking tour to universities on the East and West Coasts. His goal is clear: 'I really think it will change the world,' Lynch was quoted as saying. The article said that the Lynch Foundation currently has assets of about $410,000. To date seven schools have each been awarded $25,000 in seed money to begin programmes using the TM Technique. Two of the charter schools discussed their programmes with the New York Times reporter. Dr George H. Rutherford, principal of the Ideal Academy Public Charter School, an elementary and middle school in Washington, DC, said of Lynch, 'He is going to revolutionize education in America.' Dr Rutherford said that while other foundations tend to focus on providing learning tools (such as computers) to students, the Transcendental Meditation Programme helps develop the students themselves. 'TM helps to reduce the stress that creates problems,' he was quoted as saying. Researchers at Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa, will measure the effects of the meditation programme on students. A second school to receive a $25,000 grant from the Lynch Foundation was the Nataki Talibah Schoolhouse of Detroit, a public charter school, which previously received TM financing from the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund and the General Motors Foundation. According to the article, Nataki seventh- and eighth-grade students who worked as a non-meditating control group in a 2002 study, tracking the 'social-emotional competencies' of the meditating students, now want to experience what their peers had. In addition, Koppel reported, the Lynch Foundation is partnering with other philanthropists to grant another $25,000 each to the University of Michigan, Yale, Emerson College and other colleges to help teach students TM. The foundation is also partnering to support an American University study on TM and college students. Every day Global Good News documents the rise of a better quality of life dawning in the world and highlights the need for introducing Natural Law basedTotal Knowledge basedprogrammes to bring the support of Nature to every individual, raise the quality of life of every society, and create a lasting state of world peace. [FairfieldLife] Fwd:Oregan Newspaper responded with new article
Clearing up facts about Transcendental Meditation Guest Commentary By Bob Roth November 17, 2005 I appreciate serious, informed debate over new ideas and concepts. In that light, I offer the following facts in response to your editorial Thursday (Meditation movement lacks proper credentials, ODE Nov. 10). Fact: The National Institutes of Health has granted $20 million to study the health benefits of Transcendental Meditation in particular, benefits for reducing heart disease, hypertension and the effects of a stroke. This research has been published in leading, peer-reviewed scientific journals. The studies have been conducted by the NIH-funded Center for Natural Medicine and Prevention at Maharishi University of Management as well as by more than a dozen other independent universities and health centers, including Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles and the West Oakland Health Center in Oakland, Calif. Fact: Three hundred students at American University in Washington, D.C., are now taking part in a two-year study by the AU Psychology Department on the effects of TM on brain, behavior and health. Similar studies are now under way on the effects of TM on ADHD, high blood pressure, grades and overall academic achievement, anxiety and depression, and substance abuse at middle schools, high schools and universities around the country. Fact: Research on the effects of collective Transcendental Meditation practice has been published in several peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Conflict Resolution, Social Indicators Research and the Journal of Mind and Behavior. Fact: There is no scientific evidence to suggest that all meditation practices are the same. In fact, over the past 30 years, there have been several meta-analyses distinguishing the effects of TM from other techniques including studies published in the American Psychologist, the Journal of Clinical Psychology and the Journal of Social Behaviour and Personality. Fact: The course fee to learn Transcendental Meditation is about the same as the cost of a 3-unit course at most universities. However, the TM course is not just one semester but includes personal instruction from a qualified TM instructor as well as a lifetime of follow-up meditation instruction at thousands of meditation centers around the United States and the world. The Lynch Foundation is providing full scholarships to students at schools, colleges and universities throughout the country. Fact: Transcendental Meditation is not a religion. It is taught and practiced by people (and clergy) of all religions and to people with no religious beliefs. Well before scientists began to explore the effects of TM a judge in New Jersey in 1979 concluded there were religious elements to the teaching of TM. However, as we all know, there is a long tradition in the American judicial system (see civil rights in the south), where decisions are overturned with new evidence. Transcendental Meditation is offered to students of all religions in scores of educational institutions throughout the United States. David Lynch did not come to the University of Oregon to persuade anyone to meditate. He came to answer questions about his filmmaking, his creative process and his meditation practice. And to offer, if anyone is interested, to help provide them with the tools to dive within. It was and is a simple, genuine offer from a brilliant artist and a rare human being. Best wishes. [FairfieldLife] Truncating?
As I told before, I like this site quite a lot http://www.rainbowbody.net/HeartMind/Yogasutra.htm#translation But it's kinda amusing how translators of YS remove the parts they don't like from the suutras. Like this: III. 38 bandha-karana-saithilyat prachara-samvedanach cha chittasya [The whole suutra as it appears in Taimni, goes like this: bandha-kaaraNa-shaithilyaat pracaara-saMvedanaac ca cittasya *para-shariiraaveshaH*. It wouldn't be a complete clause without the last compound, IMO. In principle the genitive attribute cittasya might refer to the previous suutra, but it wouldn't seem to be grammatical in this case.] Thus by loosening (saithilyat) the bonds (bandhas) of the causes (karana) of ignorance because of the coming forth (prachara) of knowledge (samvedanat), consciousness of self and of others (chittasya) come forth. Commentary: It is from this sutra that many interpret Patanjali as saying that this process pertains to the way of entering and controlling the consciousness and body of other beings, but here he is simply saying that as one understands how to loosen one's own bondage unraveling its causes, one also instantly understands the causes of bondage operating in others, and thus one is able to help direct them toward liberation if favorable karmic opportunities arise. Here simply being in the presence of a highly realized being is often enough to directly assimilate that state. Here bandha refers to a gate process which can either prevent something from entering or to hold something that may wander off in distraction inside or redirected. Here it is used in the former sense, to let something in. - Thus, the translation and commentary are worthless, IMO. But I guess the translator has found the idea of moving (aavesha: entrance) ones mind or consciousness or whatever (citta) into the body (shariira) of someone else (para), as Shankara did according to Shankara-dig-vijaya, rather disgusting, or stuff... I think this building up of "spiritual" capital has to do with the nature of the TM technique. It's working at such a foundational level of being that the mind/personality can not see or understand what is happening for the most part. Then TM'ers get involved with practices that focus this spiritual reserve and they have amazing results. Like Amber Terrel (aka Karen) who was a super on-the-program Gov for 25 years with modest experiences getting involved with Gangaji and after the first meeting with her..POW!...into Self Realization. I noticed this effect some time ago in Fairfield when I joinned the Liberal Catholic Church rum by all Govs and Siddhas. [FairfieldLife] Chalanda Sai Ma pics - Colorado
Peter writes: I assume people consider Sai Ma to be Self-Realized? Her photos in this link have no shakti at all. What's up wit dat? Tom T: I had the opportunity to visit Sai Ma in Chicago about 3 years ago. When 6 different people invited me, I knew it was a cosmic invitation. The facility we were in was also hosting a 1958 Class reunion right next door with those thin partitions. The rock and roll music was very loud so we ended up doing some chanting and dancing cause there was no way you could hear anything she would have said with the rock and roll going on in the next partition. When the DJ finally took a break she began her discourse/sermon/teaching. After she had been talking about 2 minutes she laid out a Mahavakya and I laughed hysterically. Those who live in FF know me by my laughter even when they don't know me personally. Sai Ma turned to her right, as my wife and I were seated in the front row far right corner, and stared very intensely and I of course stared right back. After about a minute of staring she turned back to the audience (maybe 100 or so) and announced He Knows. The rest of her talk went the same way. She would talk and about every minute or two I would laugh and she would say He Knows. This went on for about 30 minutes and after a while the audience began to laugh at the same Mahavakyas as I did. For me it was a very interesting validation of my experience and understanding. She seemed to genuinely enjoy the laughter and would smile every time I laughed. What that meant for her I have no idea but I felt totally validated. The next day the Chicago Times had a story about the gathering, her and the weekend intensive. There were two pictures with the article. One was a 1 inch by 2 inch picture of Chalanda Sai Ma and the other was and 8 by 10 of Cindy and I plus two other attendees. Of course I was mostly in the center. I thought that was also very funny. When I left the Friday night gathering one of the devotees wanted to know if I was staying for the intensive and I responded that I had gotten all I needed and I had repaid her validation with my laughter. The devotee couldn't understand why I wasn't staying. I have found out that I don't have to follow anything other than my own laughter and the laughter seemed to think she was very awake and very funny. I have also found that most of the other teachers I run into tell me the same kind of jokes that most of the audience doesn't get. Tom Yahoo! Thanks Tom. I was looking for someone's personal experience. What's up wit dat?Tom T:I had the opportunity to visit Sai Ma in Chicago about 3 years ago. When 6 different people invited me, I knew it was a cosmic invitation. The facility we were in was also hosting a 1958 Class reunion rightnext door with those thin partitions. The rock and roll music was veryloud so we ended up doing some chanting and dancing cause there was noway you could hear anything she would have said with the rock and rollgoing on in the next partition. When the DJ finally took a break shebegan her discourse/sermon/teaching. After she had been talking about2 minutes she laid out a Mahavakya and I laughed hysterically. Thosewho live in FF know me by my laughter even when they don't know mepersonally. Sai Ma turned to her right, as my wife and I were seatedin the front row far right corner, and stared very intensely and I ofcourse stared right back. After about a minute of staring she turnedback to the audience (maybe 100 or so) and announced "He Knows". Therest of her talk went the same way. She would talk and about everyminute or two I would laugh and she would say "He Knows". This went onfor about 30 minutes and after a while the audience began to laugh atthe same Mahavakyas as I did. For me it was a very interestingvalidation of my experience and understanding. She seemed to genuinelyenjoy the laughter and would smile every time I laughed. What thatmeant for her I have no idea but I felt totally validated. The nextday the Chicago Times had a story about the gathering, her and theweekend intensive. There were two pictures with the article. One was a1 inch by 2 inch picture of Chalanda Sai Ma and the other was and 8 by10 of Cindy and I plus two other attendees. Of course I was mostly inthe center. I thought that was also very funny. When I left the Fridaynight gathering one of the devotees wanted to know if I was stayingfor the intensive and I responded that I had gotten all I needed and Ihad repaid her validation with my laughter. The devotee couldn'tunderstand why I wasn't staying. I have found out that I don't have tofollow anything other than my own laughter and the laughter seemed tothink she was very awake and very funny. I have also found that mostof the other teachers I run into tell me the same kind of jokes thatmost of the audience doesn't get. Tom Yahoo! Groups Sponsor ~-- Get fast access to your favorite Yahoo! ** All U.S.-resident students who need financial aid to attend school (and most schools do not charge $800+ per credit for classes) get it from huge state and federal loan and grant programs -- matching these comprehensive programs would require billions from the Lynch Foundation, and currently they have $410K in the bank, enough to fund 164 students, who are almost all inner-city kids at charter schools. ** Fact: Transcendental Meditation is not a religion. It is taught and practiced by people (and clergy) of all religions and to people with no religious beliefs. Well before scientists began to explore the effects of TM, a judge in New Jersey in 1979 concluded there were religious elements to the teaching of TM. However, as we all know, there is a long tradition in the American judicial system (see civil rights in the south), where decisions are overturned with new evidence. Transcendental Meditation is offered to students of all religions in scores of educational institutions throughout the United States. ** Keith Wallace published his doctoral dissertation on TM's physiological changes in 1970, so it's hard to see how Roth could possibly justify a statement like Well before scientists began to explore the effects of TM. Consider the number of ways the particle (word ending) to (pronounced toe) can be used in Japanese. I'm not sure if that's a homonym, in case it's considered the same particle with several different uses. In my opinion, homonymity(?) presupposes that the words are of different origin, but during the development of a language they have, by chance, become similar, in English often only in pronunciation, due to the rather antiquated spelling. (But perhaps only words that are spelled in the same manner, are considered homonyms in English??). In Finnish an interesting(?) example of a homonym is the word kuusi which means both the number 6, and spruce. That they are etymologically different words is shown by their inflected forms sounding different from each other, for instance the possessive kuuden (of six), but kuusen (spruce's). For standard words, there's hana for nose and hana for flower. Some words have a different tonal value, but many do not. And lets not forget Chinese... Well, I think Chinese might have lots of *written* homonyms (hmm...), but strictly speaking, as melodic accent is, I believe, a so called suprasegmental phoneme in Chinese, for instance the variations of the word 'ma' pronounced with four(?) different melodic accents are not homonyms, because the variation in melodic accent is accompanied by difference in meaning, which in turn means that the difference is equivalent to the difference in English between, say, 'key' and 'pee', or 'will' and 'well', that form so called minimal pairs, which in turn is a proof that , in this case, 'k' and 'p' are different phonemes as well as 'i' and 'e', as are the different melodic accents in Chinesephew! :) Yahoo! I was on a plane to India on 8/28. So much happened to me as a result of that deeksha that my only debate was should I go to India? Why go if it all was happening before my eyes right here in Austin? Looking back I can both say that I am so glad that I went (priceless) and there is no need to goit is unfolding perfectly here. In the end some of you will be called to go and most to stay. How will you know? You will know if you are sitting on a plane going to India. It isn't for everyone and there is no other way for those end up going. Here are two reports I just read today. Each is about India. The first is from Steve Klayman who just returned and will be giving deeksha with me on Friday: Dear friends, As some of you may know I have recently moved back to my house in Austin. I am glad to be home. I got back sept.16 and promptly left for India on sept. 30. Now I am here to stay. I will tell you my story briefly because it is an exciting one for me and the many thousands of others. For a variety of reasons I had decided in July of 2005 to leave the Devi Mandir where I had been with my guru Shree Maa for 6 years. I had planned to return to austin by oct. 1. In late july a TM friend and a member of the Devi Mandir family, Steven Shimer, said to me at his house in Fairfield, California, Steve, I have made more spiritual progress in the last 3 weeks than I have made in the last 10 years. I asked what he was doing and he and Kathy Unger, his wife told me they were going to Berkeley each week for deeksha. Of course I asked what was deeksha. He explained to me that some people had been to India and been trained by two saints, Bhagavan and Amma, to transmit the Divine energy into peoples crown chakra and that they would begin a rapid process of enlightenment or awakening. I trusted Steve and Kathy completely and i went. Each of the first 3 times I went I found it pleasant but nothing to get excited about. Some people loved it right from the start. I went a 4th time and I thought my socks would get blown right off my feet. The bliss was intense and I could barely walk or drive. WOW This was what they were talking about. I decided to stay in the Bay area and really check it out. Other friends checked it out also. Fantastic was the final decision. I have had the spiritual experiences I had been reading about for decades. And I continue to have them daily and they continue to deepen. I had given up on enlightenment. I knew many spiritual people from many different disciplines. The one thing they had in common was they talked about enlightenment. If anybody had it, well.. it certainly was not for the masses. Even those who did hard sadhana had very little to show for it. Bhagavan and Amma are avatars whose specialty is enlightenment. They have trained me to pass on this Divine energy through deeksha. There is no teaching, no techniques to do, nothing to read. Just come and receive deeksha with an attitude of gratitude. Bhagavan calls himself a technician. Just as you sit in the chair and open your mouth for the dentist, so you sit in the chair and let the person place the Golden energy into your head. Thats it. Namaste, Dr. Steve Klayman That says it all! I will point although deeksha is very powerful, many like Steve went a number of times before they actually felt the depths of what was happening to them. I think it happens from the start but sometimes the nervous system, mind, etc. takes awhile to unwind enough for it to be felt. That's why I believe it is good to come as much as your inner guidance feels is apropriate for you. Deeksha is the most powerful energy for enlightenment that I have ever experienced! This next report may seem a little far fetched for some but I know that it isn't. In India, some of the deekshas they gave us were to talk to various Beings. There is so much that I could say but I think she says it best in the report: Dear William, I hope you are well and I am looking forward to seeing you in December. I have tried to write you a couple of times about this but somehow have had trouble getting it on paper. I guess what I would say is that Bhagwan has been very directive in my life lately. He doesn't let me off the hook til I do what he tells me. As you

The Mayan perspective of 2012 and the current times we live in is very similar to the view of Kalki and the Golden Age Foundation who is also co-organising the Oneness Festival. The concept of a coming Golden Age is widely recognised among many spiritual authors, spiritual traditions and teachers. Are you making a general statement about the persistence with which we should pursue liberation, or making a judgement about the prior postings about this Babaji? --- In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, Dharma Mitra [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: The message(s) this Babaji conveyed are messages resounding both throughout the universe, from its inception to its culmination, the desideratum for each and every being transiting from and through its expressionless origins to their final satiation through this manifest universe and back into its premanifest origins, and by every saint whose blessed us with their profound excellence in human evolution. The novelty by which any of our subtler dispositions may emerge from this slide show, his company, the company of saints and other spiritually progressive beings is all too often met at the entertainment realm of most of us, the venue through which distance as well as dissociative titillation are engaged, the realm for matters of little or no value, or the place for matters of little or no value. The novelty of what he and other more enlightened souls have to convey is also due to our inattentiveness to our own human nature, though some recognition of it is reawakened through the good fortune of their company, part of their 'service to humanity'. As this is part of our nature as well, all too often neglected throughout the whole of most everyone's life, it is demonstrative that we are yet to become a truly human society, in spite of the privilege of being born in our species. It is the bounden duty of every truly sincere seeker of universal magnanimity to bring about this truthful ensconsement in spiritual victory at the soonest possible time. This could be a simple matter to arrive at within minutes or seconds if only we'd heed the wisdom of those, perhaps such as Babaji, who have come before us to show us the way. Just talking about them and garnering psycho-social titillation from them does not suffice to embolden our certainty of attaining liberation within this very life. We must own these qualities with a greater tenacity than we pursue our careers or prepare breakfast, even at the sacrifice of either. We are doing a disservice to ourselves, our posterity and the whole of humanity by choosing any lesser path. Saints and enlightened souls by any other name are not so extraordinary in that they are established in their humanity, our humanity, for they have achieved and live within constantly the threshold by which humanity is defined. Earth, as we live it today is still within, though at the cusp beyond a 'Planet of the Apes', for it should not be a struggle for humans to live an ethical life, by their, by our own volition and by the circumstances and values by which the larger society operates, the external influences affecting each and every person individually. According to their events calendar, you have to take a one-day intensive before diksha training. There's a course coming up in Colorado in December and the cost is $88 for the one-day intensive and $55 for diksha training. Ten percent discount if you book by November 27th. Tom Cool. lurk Yahoo! Hello Jim, A general statement about each of our efforts to arrive at our inevitable desideratum at the soonest possible moment. We are forever grateful to and endebted to truly spiritually evolved people whose charismatic invitations hasten us towards infinite love and universalism. Establishing ourselves in the satya which they have demonstrated, including serving living beings toward the same endeavors and goals is truly the best we can do to return this eternal debt, the only debt we should pass on to posterity. The novelty of what he and othermore enlightened souls have to convey is also due to our inattentiveness to our own human nature, though some recognition of it is reawakenedthrough the good fortune of their company, part of their 'service tohumanity'. As this is part of our nature as well, all too often neglected throughout the whole of most everyone's life, it is demonstrative that we are yet tobecome a truly human society, in spite of the privilege of being born inour species. It is the bounden duty of every truly sincere seeker of universal magnanimity to bring about this truthful ensconsement in spiritualvictory at the soonest possible time. This could be a simple matter toarrive at within minutes or seconds if only we'd heed the wisdom of those, perhaps such as Babaji, who have come before us to show us the way. Justtalking about them and garnering psycho-social titillation from them doesnot suffice to embolden our certainty of attaining liberation within this very life. We must own these qualities with a greater tenacity than wepursue our careers or prepare breakfast, even at the sacrifice of either. Weare doing a disservice to ourselves, our posterity and the whole of humanity by choosing any lesser path.Saints and enlightened souls by any other name are not soextraordinary in that they are established in their humanity, our humanity, forthey have achieved and live within constantly the threshold by whichhumanity is defined. Earth, as we live it today is still within, though at thecusp beyond a 'Planet of the Apes', for it should not be a struggle for humans to live an ethical life, by their, by our own volition and by thecircumstances and values by which the larger society operates, the externalinfluences affecting each and every person individually. As for which 'Babaji' this person was or is, I'm confident he'sdifferent than the Babaji referred to by Yoganandaji.Flourishingly, Dharma Mitra DharmaMitra2 AT gmail.com http://gmail.com Helping you Say It With Panache!
