[FairfieldLife] Re: MUM Student Petition

2016-05-19 Thread dhamiltony...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife]
Someone studying on campus comments about the student petition separately by
e-mail..
I know most of the students posting and they are really wonderful people- the
university's better offsprings. So, I am encouraged that this petition seems to
be rooted in positivity and good will.

This reform work within the meditating community and at the University is
consequentially different than what space some anti-TM blogs and forum may
occupy otherwise out on the internet.

 Ollie observes:
There seems to have evolved a permanent class of those whose time is spent
uselessly complaining about all things TM, Maharishi, and MUM. Judging by the
noted absence of such signatures on the petition, I'd say efforts like this to
move towards improvement are probably the last thing the malcontents want to
see. PS signed it yet? :-)

Amen - "Doctor" Bevan Morris and his supporters exert a strong tamasic
influence on the University, and should be shown the door. Not my fight, and
nothing personal, but that's your problem, right there. I appreciate what Craig
may be up against, but he comes across as more appeaser than revolutionary.
Sometimes we just have to speak truth to power. The problem with being unclear
about one's objectives is that any issue can then be seen as having two
legitimate sides, whether it does or not.
---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, wrote :

What you may not be seeing from remote is that MUM is an academic institution
with institutional academic processes. Processes of faculty, staff and
administration in form a lot like other university institutions and with
similar problems. That does not excuse the cultural problems that are peculiar
to TM and the meditating at MUM.

However, actually Craig is a more good guy in the middle of things. I have
been in committees with Craig the last couple of years and Craig is in a very
difficult place between personalities that he has to report too. He actually
is one of the people hoping to have it all work out in a good way. As the
chief administrator, an academic, and old TM teacher, and a parent himself he
is quite incredible at the high wire balance needed. It would be a shame to
see him fall from this.

What he really needs is the authority from the Trustees to facilitate what is
needed to rectify real problems. The place needs a 24/7 university president
who is present to listening to the problems and working with people instead of
against them. The Trustees need to fix that.

 Ollie writes:
On the other hand, there is quite a disingenuous response by a MUM Trustee,
Craig Pearson, in the comments section, and a following comment that
beautifully calls him out.

  The institution, formerly known as Mount St. Clare College, opened in 1918;
its owner, Bridgepoint Education announced last July that the campus would
close at the end of this school year due to declining enrollment.

Actually the university is not the TM movement. MUM is its own

TM movement.
Tony Nader, for instance, is not on the MUM board of trustees.

I hate to tell you, but Fascism is already alive and well in America - it is
not "coming". There are basically 10 million who have already made their
choice, who have and will continue to support Trump as willing perpetrators, or
at least unwitting stoops, of a megalomaniac who those stupid Bernie supporters
who hate Hillary would be willing to vote for. Imagine, someone loves all that
Bernie stands for but would vote for his opposite in the form of Trump just to
avoid bringing Hillary to the White House. Fucking crazy.

I will be devoting my time to my duties as Prime Minister of the Global
Country of World Peace, and as International President of Maharishi

I am proposing to the Board of Trustees that Raja John Hagelin be appointed as
President of the University. He is tops in knowledge, both in science and
Maharishi Vedic Science, a charismatic and inspiring figure, and has proven his
administrative and marketing skills by increasing the number of people in the
US learning Transcendental Meditation tenfold in just a few years.
He has agreed that he is willing to do this, and I feel sure that the Board
will support him in this role (he is already Honorary Chairman of the Board of
Trustees, and the University's most senior faculty member, researcher, and
public speaker). He has expressed his admiration for the existing faculty and
administrative teams at the University who have vast experience, and feels with
their help he will be able to manage everything well.
He also says he already has ideas how to promote the University more, and
attract more students, including building a closer relationship between
Maharishi Foundation and Maharishi University of Management, and calling upon
the skills and contacts of Dr. Bob Roth to raise the University's profile. This
will also include greater promotion of the unique knowledge offered by the
faculty of the University at special conferences Raja Hagelin will organize.
He has also mentioned his desire to be able to consult with me on any issues
that may come up, and I of course am very happy to do that.
We will also bring out this change in the leadership during the Commencement
ceremony on June 18th, without taking too much time.
I do feel strongly that this is a great step of progress for Maharishi
University of Management, and will lead to the faster expansion we all desire.
Raja John Hagelin and I have had a chance to discuss this with Maharaja
Adhiraj Rajaraam to gain his perspective, and he feels this is a very good move.
Thank you all for your kindness and loving support through all the years! You
have done and are doing so much for Maharishi University of Management and the
whole world!!! Please continue your support and expand it if you can!
 With Best Wishes,

Have you ever been audited by the IRS? I have and also have dealt with
the IRS on other issues the last being that probably a temp at Provo put
my income from a derivative work as a E royalty as opposed to C
miscellaneous income. For it to be E I would have to be the author not
someone who implemented the derivative. The IRS person and I actually
had a laugh over it.

Yup, the IRS codes are too complicated. Why? Big business likes them
that way. In fact for my small software development business I could
use form C-EZ (actually my CPA does) but using the house as a home
office and the tax write offs for the mortgage require a bit more
complex of a tax return best left up to a pro and definitely NOT ME.

The Patriot Act was intended to replace the US Constitution and is
similar to the "Enabling Act of 1933" that Hitler enacted. They've
just been phasing Fascism in over the last few years. The
"superficials" will probably scoff but sit back and think a bit. A
lot of Americans don't recognize their country anymore. And remember
that many "new agers" don't read or watch the news because "it will

The government controls a lot of funds that create dependency, individually and
up to the state level. And then there are a lot of people fearful of the IRS.
You don't have to be guilty of anything but an audit could really mess you up
financially.
I just saw a decal on the back of a pick up that said "Our forefathers would be

I'm sorry you aren't able to grasp the distinction between defending a racist
cartoon (which I did not do) and supporting a nonracist political point (which
is what I did). It simply is not the case that all political criticisms of
Condi Rice are automatically racist. In fact, it's racist to claim they *are*
all racist.

Your reading comprehension is getting worse and worse. I didn't defend the
cartoon, I said I understood why some might do so: because the *political*
point was valid. The political point had nothing to do with race. If Prissy in
GWTW and/or Condi had been white, the exact same point would have been made
with the same cartoon without the racial aspect.

It is a matter of hypocrisy Judy. Ollie suggested that a cartoon of Michelle

If you didn't notice, I followed that sentence invoking the Times and the
Post with a question mark. No, it wasn't published by them but was by a
syndicated cartoonist that they frequently publish and continue to do so.
Let's not play stupid Judy, you know exactly what the sentiment of that
cartoon was meant to convey. A black woman sitting in a rocking chair, rocking
an aluminum tube as if it were a baby with a play on words from a famous movie.
The line, "I don't know nothing 'bout birthing babies", mocking a simpleton, an
uneducated lazy slave, one who does what the massa tells her to do.
The very fact that you can defend it, while claiming you're not, is ten times
lower than my not knowing that neither the Times nor the Post actually
published it even though it was one of their syndicated cartoonists.
It was all about hypocrisy Judy..

For you to suggest the cartoon was published in the New York Times or
Washington Post when you knew it wasn't was pretty low, Mike.

And I just got done saying myself that the accuracy of the caption wasn't
relevant.

I don't know what "sentiment" the cartoon was intended to evoke, and neither
do you. The political point, though, was valid, and I would guess that's why
some defended it.

to the Board of Trustees that Raja John Hagelin be appointed as President of

promote the University more, and attract more students, including building a
closer relationship between Maharishi Foundation and Maharishi University of

the University's profile. This will also include greater promotion of the
unique knowledge offered by the faculty of the University at special

able to consult with me on any issues that may come up, and I of course am very

FW: Bevan's letter makes it quite clear that he is technically nominating John
as President, and that he is confident the Board will confirm that nomination.
He also indicates that RajaRaam has also approved of these plans.
