Yes, it could, Maharishi. Devastate comes from the
Latin, Vastare, to destroy. And another thing, MMY,
however good TM is, you will not succeed if you surround
 yourself with idiots. Uns.

Why should MMY surround himself with Brahmarishi Mahasiddhas?
I'd like these top notch people working in the trenches.

If someone like MMY surrounds himself with idiots, then in
time, they will no longer be idiots.

The fact that you can see this clearly speaks positively about
you. You probably can do alot of positive things for the rest of
us.

I don't give a rats a*s about the organization.

As long as the TM techniques are secure and properly passed
on so others can be trained, i think this is enough.
From another perspective, the TM Organization might be a training
ground so something else entirely.

Cheer up.

[FairfieldLife] Re: Bush Attempt to Subvert Organic Standards - Send Letter Now

2005-09-20 Thread eptfnj

Large corporations aided and abetted by the U.S. Department of
Agriculture (USDA) are moving to lower organic standards by allowing a
Bush appointee to create a list of synthetic ingredients that would be
allowed in organic production. Even worse these proposed regulatory
changes will reduce future public discussion and input and take away
the National Organic Standards Board's (NOSB) traditional lead
jurisdiction in setting standards. What this means, in blunt terms. is
that USDA bureaucrats and industry lobbyists, not consumers, will now
have more control over what can go into organic foods and products. A
vote on this may come as early as tomorrow,...

Consumers already have full control.

Consumers have the ability to purchase only from
the growers/suppliers that meet the standards
that best suit the enviroment and population.

The fact remains, people in general will not pay
a premium.

[FairfieldLife] Abuse by Clerics

2005-09-22 Thread eptfnj
 The most prominent example in
the US(can't speak for Britain) is the scandals
 in the Catholic church where
numerous priests used their position and power to molest members of
 the lay community.

To molest CHILDREN. Priests having affairs may be a no-no, but the
Church doesn't get bankrupted due to lawsuits over it.

Clerics abusing anyone sexually or otherwise is unacceptable.

The Catholic Church has received the most press regarding this
unfortunate situaton but the web has numberous sites listing
offences by Hindu, Buddhist etc.. clerics.

There are/were several books (maybe out of print) by women that were
sexually abused by Zen and Tibetan Teachers.

Rick Fields wrote a book about the history of Buddhism in the US
containing many stories of sexual abuse.

The Hindu Tradition has its share of problems.

Can't mention the other Religious Traditions without
getting branded.

Basically, people are no fu***ng good regardless of the type
of self-induced so-called religious/transcendental experiences
they proclaim.

What else is new?

I take great exception to most unequal.

If you're talking rights and freedoms, you're totally wrong.

If you're talking economics, you're 180 degrees wrong.

There is no country on Earth -- including those wonderful
socialistic Scandinavian countries -- that have better economic
  equality than the United States.

There is virtually ZERO gap between rich and so-called poor
  in the U.S.

And I'm NOT talking poverty line or income...I'm talking access
to the basic necessities of life. On THAT standard, there is
virtually a ZERO gap between Bill Gates and that perennial
8-year-old kid sitting on a heap of garbage in Harlem.

I usually don't bother to deal with this level of
ignorance, but in this case I will.

Let's do a little experiment, Shemp.

First, quit your job, so that you are unemployed
and on an equal footing with other unemployed
people. You can't start working again in your
field for the duration of the experiment. Next,
give me the keys to your car; you'll get it back
in six months. Next, give me all your savings,
except for one month's rent (no more) on an
apartment that someone working at minimum wage
could afford; you'll get the rest of your savings
back, too. Finally, move out of your house and
into this apartment and start over, on a *truly*
equal footing with those people you look down on.

Then spend six months living like millions of
people really live, and tell me at the end of
it all how equal you felt to those who had
cushy jobs and a car and a house.

You won't do it, of course. People who live in
dream worlds never want to wake up.

A person self-stimulates themselves

The resulting physiological reaction is actual.
The feelings arising are quite real to the person.
The person proclaims I am the greater lover of all.

Real to them.

Maybe others that read porno books and do self-stimulation

Illusion?

Reading so-called Holy Books and effortlessly thinking

[FairfieldLife] Re: Dangers of Pseudo-Advaita

2005-10-03 Thread eptfnj
The crux of your inquiry seems to be not so much how do we know we
are enlightened, but how do we share that or convince others that
 we are?

What about - is there such a state labelled Enlightenment
and is it worthwhile attaining it? Forget about the
entertainment of lights, energy and sleep witnessing.

First, anyone with a thirst to let others know how enlightened they
are is mired in deep ignorance, and is either expoliting their
 followers, or has self-esteem issues.

Same with money, sex, fame...etc.

How do we convince others that we are enlightened? It has always
worked for me on a frequency level, like a radio. Whenever I am in
the presence of someone enlightened, my body resonates at that
frequency of Wholeness. it is simple, obvious and unmistakable.

The same can be said to happen when in proximity to charimatic,
wealthy and attractice people too.
Just some more subjective stuff arising from feelings etc..

As far as my own criteria for my own enlightenment, it has always
been a simple one; how much am I enjoying myself, or suffering?
Gets rid of the BS right away. ...And I've never had much success
convincing myself that if only external element A -Z were changed,
 I'd be happier.

Now, THATS a viewpoint that has merit.

All this is good and fine. But what is the difference with long term
psycho-analysis or other traditional -- somewhat looked down upon
methods. Or simple building a strong character. ruthless
self-examination and the deepening of a willingness to bear whatever
it takes to stay true could be the description of many protagonists
in much literature, drama and film.

ruthless self-examination could be considered a means
to see clearly. This is sometimes called the path of attention
and a very steep climb. Its value may be the direct engagement
of those obstacles, addictions, affectations etc that clog the
processes of cognition.

Maybe, a person that completely lets go on the path of effortlessness
and transcends all mental machinations truly attends to what is.

Maybe is the key word.
Attention with strain is just another binding mental influence.
Expending effort to be effortless is simply absurd.

If people cannot figure out how to be happy

This is humane compared with the bizarre

This is more elightenment gibberish.

The experience of a still center within might be interesting
and different compared to other experiences but so what? Unless
such an experience makes a measurable positive difference then
its just more stuff.

I am not here is an equally absurd declaration.

Calling all descriptions and fictions about oneself and/or

(so-called) mind to unfulfilled expectations.

wearing away of boredom by long periods of sitting
is certainly not effortless TM.

IMO,i notice that people who have completed a few sesshin
have a calmness and degree of patience missing in long-term
TMers.

[FairfieldLife] Re: Dangers of Pseudo-Advaita

2005-10-07 Thread eptfnj
I was referring to his comments about being enlightened as to the
goal of enlightenment, the first time we transcend during TM and
 contact the Absolute.

So it is a statement of relative enlightenment he was making.
The point I was making was that this statement of his led some of
 us
to think that we were in fact enlightened; end of pathless path.
This was in the context of a discussion about knowledge being
 structured in consciousness.
The 'gradual school' perspective was always there as well, proving
I guess that the ego hears what it wants to.

if a person cannot tell when they have ceased being totally at the
mercy of their past actions, memories, tendencies or whatever then
screw them.

there are a good number of people that experience lights, sounds and
all other Yogic stuff and are basically quite fu*ked up.

the term liberation' might be better a description
of the outcome of completely letting go rather than enlightenment.

i thought the object is to become free and not get caught up in
endless courses, programs, techniques and other nonsence.

Someone mentioned Taoist texts awhile ago.
Wasn't it Chuang Tzu that pointed out the absurdity
of the various later developments in Taoist breathing,
meditational and alchemy pursuits?

This is what TM has become. A lot of horsecrap.
What happened to capture the fort?

That was Zen; this is Tao. The movement decided
that it was more in tune with Natural Law to buy
the fort than to capture it.

now, the Fort is only spoken about,
loyal followers imply it has been captured,
detractors say it will only be purchased,
a few people see only an empty useless lot
with real estate people from Florida selling it as
The Ideal Community to Live in at prices no-one
can afford.

Re your writing above, how could 'loyal followers imply [the fort]
has been captured'? If they have really captured the fort, in that
context, they may be loyal but they could no longer, by definition,
 be followers.

very good!

but those Lions even after looking into the calm clear pool,
still bray like the jackasses they associate with.
their identity is still unclear.

a profilic western interpreter of Zen once commented that
Bankei Zenji, an eccentric and insightfull meditator was
considered a successfull teacher precisely because he left
no successors or followers.

people DO get addicted to the medicine prescribed to cure their
dis-ease.

people DO fall in love with the doctor that intended only to cure
their dis-ease.

One night, I wanted to see for myself how Old Khyentse slept.

My favorite story about Dilgo Kyentse Rinpoche. It was written
years ago in the Shambala Sun.

Thomas Rich had already been appointed as Vajra Regent and
Kyentse Rinpoche was invited by Trungpa to the US.

Kyentse asked the Regent to stop by later that evening
because He wanted to say something important. It was
written that the Regent stopped by the Rinpoches room
after most people had retired. As i recall, this is how
the Regent relayed the incident.

He motioned me to come close. Leaning over He whispered
into my ear Remember always to be kind, people are
depending on you. This was all He said that evening.

This is an example of the Ear-Whispered pith instructions
that seem to have been lost

There is far less spirituality in boucing on your ass to raise
