2014-05-05 Thread jr_esq
Jedi,

In order for a machine to have artificial intelligence, it would have to
process information based on the human senses, such as seeing, hearing,
touching, tasting, and feeling. As such, it would be able to understand and
communicate with human beings.

Also, the programming of the human senses would have to be related to Nature
at large, such fire, earth, water, air, and ether in order for the machine to
understand and communicate in terms of human intelligence.

Further, the machine would have to be programmed to understand the various
levels of human consciousness, such as waking, sleeping, dreaming, and the
other higher states of consciousness.

Assuming that a machine can be programmed to mimic these qualities, would the
machine be able to think spontaneously on its own and transcend the thoughts or
information that it's processing?

IMO, these machines could mimic intelligence but for specific purposes, such
as playing chess, playing jeopardy and predicting the weather which can be done
by brute computation of data. Or, maybe even predicting the stock market. But
they would not be human.

Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: Is AI Possible?

2014-05-05 Thread jr_esq
Bhairitu,

Yes, there are some people who think that the universe is a machine from the
Big Bang to the end of the universe. The mechanisms of how this whole thing
came about and how it will end are still being debated by various theories and
actual scientific data.

It appears to me that the argument for a universe based on consciousness is
fairly strong one. As I've mentioned here fairly often, it takes
Consciousness to conceive and create space and time. Without it, how is it
possible for a universe to exist?

Can a quantum fluctuation of the tiniest particle create space and time? I
don't think so. But some of the popular physicists today, like Hawking and
Krauss, are forced to make this conclusion because they're looking for a
quantifiable matter or force which would explain the Big Bang. By doing so,
they come up with an absurd conclusion that the universe created itself. Is
that logical?

[FairfieldLife] USA Enters Rahu Period 10-03-2015

2014-05-02 Thread jr_esq
What's in store for this country? We can look back in history to determine
what happened in the last Rahu period which was in October 1895. At best,
several important scientific proposals were made at that time, including
Einstein's Theory of Relativity. At worst, the country got into the
Spanish-American War.

So, we can expect that there will be a new transformation in our society which
includes some important scientific discoveries, perhaps in the field of physics
by American scientists at the LHC. Also, the quest for colonizing Mars and the
Moon will have more appeal for the people.

At worst, the US should be careful not to get involved into another war,
particularly against Russia over issues relating to the Ukraine and other
former Soviet bloc nations.

As such, Americans should elect a new president in 2016 who has the vision to
transform this society into a new direction towards a better future in terms of
economic prosperity, and to avoid the pitfalls of the past, such as getting
into wars which can destroy the entire planet.

According to Hillary's jyotish chart, she will be running a weak period of the

rather than run for the presidency.

I haven't seen Elizabeth Warren's chart. Does anyone know of her birth data?

Obama is playing a different strategy with Putin. Obama are and the NATO
allies are threatening Russia with sanctions which would hurt most of the
people of Russia. And, Putin can't do anything about it other than trade its
goods and services with China. Also, it would be destructive for him to use
arms and weapons. It would only lead to a MAD policy which could annihilate
the entire planet.

In the end, China would come out ahead since it can trade with everyone in the

In the game of poker you get five cards and then you get to discard two
and draw two more. The objective is to wager that your opponent has a
weaker hand than you do, but the odds are not in your favor when you are
dealing with a fresh deck. So, sometimes you have to resort to
subterfuge or have faith in the luck of the draw.

In the game of chess the objective is to maneuvers one's pieces to
acquire an advantage over your opponent, eliminating only those enemy
pieces necessary to secure one's own advantageous position - while
counter acting against the opponents maneuvers. The final objective is
to place the opponent's leader (the king) into such a position that
his/her/it's defeat is absolute and final.

Ukraine, Moldova and Lithuania are all well covered by the opponent's
knights and rooks. Finland must not stand between the kings. It's a game
of chess being played on Russia's table and the American king is far,
far away. As in chess, after sufficient pieces drop into Russia's hands,
a stalemate becomes the logical outcome.

So, What could the opponent king do? Kick over the table? Not likely.

Putin is playing chess. Obama is playing poker - Obama is the one doing
the bluffing. It's the difference between poker and chess.

It's amazing how optimistic we humans are, what are the chances of another
civilisation having the same sort of technology as us at the time our message
arrives? Unbelievably small. But that's no reason not to try, and here's the
funny thing: we don't try! Not much anyway, we just listen, we hardly ever send
a messages to the stars. Partly because of the cost but also I suspect because
the people that send them won't be around to hear the reply - if we even still
have the tech to pick them up.

What if everyone else is just listening instead of sending? Oops. But then we
did receive a message once.

It came in on the day Elvis died (no connection probably) and was identified
as being unusual a few days later. The technician that collated the night's
readings noticed the strength of the signal and wrote Wow! in the margin.

What was interesting is that a few years earlier a group of scientists decided
what the most likely methods intelligent aliens would use to communicate across
space. They decided the hydrogen wavelength was the most likely as it's the
most common element and they aliens would have to know that. The decided a
modulated signal would indicate a complex message being conveyed.

A few years later there it was! Exactly what was predicted. Trouble is, when
they triangulated where the signal had came from there wasn't any star there.
And it was never repeated despite much searching.

So that was that. Our potential first contact was left as an unrepeated
anomaly and forgotten. Or so I thought

 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wow!_signal
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wow!_signal

There's a good bit at the bottom:

In 2012, on the 35th anniversary of the Wow! signal, Arecibo Observatory
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arecibo_Observatory beamed a response from
humanity, containing 10,000 Twitter http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twitter
messages, in the direction from which the signal originated. In the response,
Arecibo scientists have attempted to increase the chances of intelligent life
receiving and decoding the celebrity videos and crowd-sourced tweets by
attaching a repeating sequence header to each message that will let the
recipient know that the messages are intentional and from another intelligent
life form.

Cool. That's what being human is all about.

This is similar to the Big Bounce Theory which state that the universe today is
a result of the contraction of the previous universe into a singularity. But
the proponents of this LQC do not deny that the current universe is expanding
at an accelerating rate.

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFcQuEw0oY8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFcQuEw0oY8

So, how does the universe end? Max Tegmark, an MIT professor, summarized in
his latest book that the universe could end in the following scenarios:

 1. Big Chill

 2. Big Crunch

 3. Big Rip

 4. Big Snap
 5. Death Bubble

But no scientists have ever proposed that the universe could return to
nothingness. IMO, this is possible if the universe continues its expansion and
reaches the superluminal speed. At that time, all traces of matter could be
wiped out and there will be nothing but consciousness, which include the memory
and the idea of spacetime. In other words, the universe returns to the Unified
Field.

That's what I'm saying. In a case like the Rama levitation event, Lenz
could have taught his inner circle TB followers how to self-hypnotize
themselves, or to later become auto-hypnotized, sort of like the
Manchurian Candidate. Barry might have been brain-washed and put into a
trance-induction state, and programmed to later do a 180 and become an

Apparently some people are very prone to suggestibility - they go down
the rabbit hole and later pop up on public forums posing as ex-spiritual
teachers in order to fool the public into adopting their materialistic,
nihilistic philosophy. That's what I think.

Lawson,

I recently bought Tegmark's latest book in which he discusses these ideas. In
the book, he speculates on how the universe will eventually in various
scenarious like the Big Chill, Big Crunch, Big Rip, Big Snap and Big Bubble
depending if the inflation theory of the universe is correct or not.

It is unusual, however, that he didn't mention how the current universe can be
the cause of the next one--not necessarily due to the cyclic universe that can
be caused by the Big Crunch-- which is the current proposal that Roger Penrose
is making in the current lecture circuit.

Nonetheless, I do appreciate many of Leonard Susskind's theories. On the
YouTube physics lectures, he's apparently teaming up with Rafael Buosso to
present their new ideas relating to the holographic nature of the universe.
I'd like to hear what they have to say, particularly on the possibility of the
superluminal expansion of the universe which appears to be a possible given the
latest discovery about the universal inflation.

One thing that I didn't realize is that he believes that there's no real
difference in the kind of universes found in Type I, Type II and Type III
multiverses. They're just convenient ways of categorizing different details.

Leonard Susskind recently published a paper that he claimed showed that the
Type I and Type II multiverses were identical.

Emily,

I'm trying to describe the unusual feature in Clooney's chart in simple terms.
In other words, his tenth house, representing his career, is not very strong
since Mars, the 10th lord, is placed in the sixth house. Ordinarily, this
would mean that this person will have difficulty in having a successful career.

However, in Clooney's chart, the lord of the sixth house is the Moon, a
feminine planet, which is placed in the 12th house of loss. In jyotish, this
means that he has a Viparita Yoga. This means that, despite the weakness of
the indicators, it becomes good for him--in fact, the yoga gives him success
and money.

In other words, the female population (represented by the Moon) will somehow
save his career, and even the rest of his enemies will recognize this draw and
would follow him. Thus, it results in a victory for him which is essentially
the reason why he is so popular right now.

Bhairitu,

I'd to recheck Dubya's jyotish chart to find out where he got this talent for
art. But I do remember he has Saturn and Mercury in the first house, just like
Bill Clinton. And both of them were born under the sign of Cancer.

Because of this, Sanjay Rath, the jyotishi, was speculating that Saturn and
Mercury must be a special yoga for Cancer ascendants since these two people
have been able to rise to the most powerful position in the world as president
of the US.

However, it's interesting to consider what the vedic shastras say about this
yoga. It's basically saying that the conjunction of Saturn and Mercury means
that the person involved hides the truth. IMO, this statement has a ring to it
since all politicians never tell the truth anyway.

Salyavin,

That's a nice painting there which I've seen somewhere before. I'd have to
check his jyotish chart to find out why he became insane and what are the
planetary combinations that gave him the talent for painting. In general,
talent in art is a manifestation of passion for work and living.

---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, no_re...@yahoogroups.com wrote :

The fact he had mental problems didn't detract from or affect his painting. He
had mastered most aspects of art before he adopted the life of a penniless
traveller. I went to the major retrospective of his work at the Royal Academy
in London recently, everything from his sketches to his last works was
represented alongside his letters to his brother which gave explanations for
how he saw the world and what his paintings were trying to achieve. The last
ones before he shot himself are heartbreaking, as are his last paintings, all
of decripit figures toiling the land in autumn. Beautiful stuff, but he saw
that season as mirroring that time of life before we ourselves get cut down by
nature's scythe.

There were paintings there I'd never seen before including the ones he did
during his last stay at the asylum. It was groundbreaking stuff looking at the
world like that and he was the first to do portraits of the peasants and
champion their lives as being close to God through virtue of their poverty and
lack of pretension. He became a priests for a while and gave all his money away
because he thought it was a barrier to spiritual growth. So you are right in
that he'd be surprised at what his paintings sell for now. And who's buying
them. He hated the bourgeoisie!

My favourite painting of his in New York, I've yet to see it. I love how the
village sleeps unaware of the whirling majesty of the sky. A man after my own
heart was Vincent, he saw the world so vibrantly and clearly. Felt it's pain
and injustice. I was in tears at the end. Proper good art show that was.

That's enough rambling from me, I'm going out for a pint.

[FairfieldLife] Various Levels of the Multiverse

2014-04-04 Thread jr_esq
Max Tegmark, a professor at MIT, explains his understanding of the multiverse.
At the first level, we can understand that beyond our observable universe,
there is a planet similar to Earth and which has a person that looks like each
one of us. But, due to quantum fluctuation, that person may have a slight
difference, such as speaking a different language or living in another country.

The second and third levels get a bit more complicated to explain in this post.

At the fourth level, he speaks of a multiverse that is based on mathematical
principles. For details, take a look at this clip:

Little shakers may be a relative term. When the Loma Prieta earthquake
happened in October 1989, my dad saw the walls of the house shake for about a
minute or so. Luckily, he was safe and the house was not damaged.

At that time, I was still living in Seattle and was watching the World Series
when the programming was interrupted due to the shaker. But I was in Seattle
during the big earthquake over there in 2001 (I think that was the year, as I
recall). I remember our office building was swaying back and forth and we were
at the 32nd floor. I hid underneath my desk. Thankfully, our building did not
sustain any damages, except for a few streaks if cracked paint in the emergency
stair well. However, an old red brick building at the Pioneer Square sustained
some damages.

Perhaps this is also the reason why David, of the OT fame, was unafraid to
face Goliath, the biggest warrior of the Philistines. A researcher further
stated that most big men have congenital defects, including seeing with double

where David was in the battlefield. So, it was easy for David, who was young

[FairfieldLife] Mick Jagger Inherits $9 Million

2014-03-27 Thread jr_esq
In spite of the tragic event of the death of his lover, he inherits a lot of
money. But we don't know if his lover had debtors who would surely want a share
of that money.

Maybe it would help recoup a fraction of his previous divorce settlement losses
and alimony payments.

[FairfieldLife] Re: Neural Correlates of Consciousness?

I'm not sure what exactly she's saying. But it appears that she's saying
humans don't have consciousness and a free will. If that is true, then I'd
disagree.

Susan Blackmore has a new essay about consciousness research on her website.
Food for thought:

Consciousness is not some weird and wonderful product of some brain processes
but not others. Rather, it is an illusion constructed by a clever brain and
body in a complex social world. We can speak, think, refer to ourselves as
agents and so build up the false idea of a persisting self that has
consciousness and free will.

[FairfieldLife] Another Politician Bites the Dust

2014-03-26 Thread jr_esq
I was walking home from the neighborhood grocery store when a lady reporter
asked me to talk on camera. She explained that Leland Yee, the state senator
is being arrested for graft and corruption by the FBI, as we were standing in
front of his house.

I'm shocked about this allegation. We shouldn't jump into conclusion. But
I'm sure he can defend himself in court, I told the reporter.

When I got home a few minutes ago, I was surprised to see that the news about
the arrest have already made the internet. It's apparent that the FBI leaked
this arrest to the press for full media coverage.

I don't see anything wrong with a nun who can sing and perform in front of a
huge TV crowd. Everyone has unique gifts that should be used for the greater
good.

The Voice of Italy judges couldn't believe their ears when they heard
Sister Cristina Scuccia, a member of the Ursuline Sisters of the Holy Family,
delivering a jaw-droppingly good performance , a belting out Alicia Keys' No
One, but they were in for a greater shock when they saw what Scuccia looked
like.
