Re: [FairfieldLife] Rock - where did it all start?

Rock emerged from boogie-woogie. The straight eights rock'n roll is
attributed to a Kansas City boogie-woogie piano player who played some
tunes in a straight eighth pattern rather than a shuffle. Also if you
listen to the cakewalks of the late 19th century you'll hear the rhythm
patterns that became essential in funk music. Music historians also
believe that the blues came from the Muslim call for prayer which uses a
similar scale.

I suspect that for me rock started with the Beatles but here are two
tracks which pre-date John and Paul and which I instantly recognized
as *my* music...

One of the first Rock and Roll performances:

Berry was among the first musicians to be inducted into the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame on its opening in 1986, with the comment that he laid the
groundwork for not only a rock and roll sound but a rock and roll stance.
Berry is included in several Rolling Stone Greatest of All Time lists,
including being ranked fifth on their 2004 list of the 100 Greatest Artists
of All Time. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock
and Roll included three of Chuck Berry's songs: Johnny B. Goode,
Maybellene, and Rock and Roll Music.
