On Face the Nation yesterday, former vice president Dick Cheney said this, in part,in response to a question from Bob Schieffer about whether he regretted any of the actions the government took after 9/11:
"...Now, if you'd look at it from the perspective of a senior government official, somebody like myself, who stood up and took the oath of office on January 20th of `01 and raised their right hand and said we're going to protect and defend the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic, this was exactly, exactly what was needed to do it...." Here's what the actual oath he took says: "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic..." Notice the crucial difference? Schieffer didn't, apparently, because he didn't mention it. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2009/05/10/interview_with_fmr_vice_president_cheney_96430.html http://tinyurl.com/p3x8ee h/t: Andrew Sullivan
