Col. Henry Steele Olcott (1832 - 1907), cofounder of the Theosophical Society along with Helena Blavatsky. Fought in the Civil War, investigated the assassination of Lincoln. Was a highly respected lawyer, converted to Buddhism. Investigated Spiritualism in 1974 and in that year met Helena Blavatsky. Traveled to India in 1879 arriving in Bombay and set up the Hq of the Theosophical Society in Adyar, Chennai. Helped with a revival of Buddhism in Sri Lanka.
