This film released this week on DVD. I liked it better than the
original "The Messengers" which I expected much from due to it being a
Pang Brothers film. But something went wrong with that production and
it was a disappointment. This one is much better. Todd Farmer, who
wrote the original story line for "The Messengers" wrote this script.
He is also know for writing "Jason X" and "My Bloody Valentine 3D."
The film was directed by Martin Barnewitz, a Danish director known for
his film "Room 205". It was filmed in Bulgaria (standing in for the
US). One thing about "outsourced films" seems to be they work better
than the overblown Hollywood ones.

This film is not a gore fest but more a supernatural thriller. Farmer
calls it "The Shining" meets "Poltergeist." It's about a farmer whose
farm is about to go into foreclosure and his crops being ruined by
crows. He discovers an old scarecrow hidden away in his barn. A
neighbor suggests he put the scarecrow up and see if it helps his corn
crop. Of course he does and the crops do well as well as a number of
other things happening. It also causes problems between the farmer and
his family.

It's rated R for scenes Turq will love and Edg will hate. My only
problem with this film was the last 15-20 minutes which seemed to fall
into cliche. Otherwise nicely filmed and the DVD transfer excellent and
upscaled nicely. Unfortunately Sony hasn't announced a Blu-Ray version
yet. BTW, Sony and RedBox did just announce a 5 year deal to distribute
DVD via RedBox kiosks. I have these all over the place and someone
snatched up this DVD on Tuesday (the release date) but it was available
yesterday at another nearby location. RedBox DVDs and Blu-Rays rent for
$1 a night. If you rent this listen to the commentary as it is a hoot.
