edition. I think it runs for a year before wanting you to pay for it.
After a year, download COMODO Antivirus - also free, but a lot bigger than
Avast.
Note: Navigate the screens on downloads.com carefully - It is a great

down in several years.
I did AVG as well, and had no problems. But it always seemed like they
put extra steps in the way of getting the free version after a while,
and steered you to the fee based program.

(especially at work), and if I get stymied, I might try a different
route. But we had AVG for many years and were quite satisfied.
I admit, Free is often the operative word for me in such cases.
I really don't understand either why

That's what I've been using for Win7, and it seems to do
the job. (I don't tend to frequent dangerous Web sites,
though.)

FYI -
AVG Anti-Virus 2013 is only free for the first 30 days.
MS Security Essentials will work fine for ordinary
real-time protection but for greater security along with
malware removal, Malwarebytes is the free AV software

I don't visit many websites except for documentation of known software
so minimal protection is just fine on my Windows machines. There is an
elitism amongst techies that one must have the latest, greatest and the
