I saw the same thing when I went to Kedarnath in '96. People walked, road
horses and went up by the method you see below. Some elderly were even carried
up in baskets carried on someone's back.

Not really. They'd never be caught dead visiting a Buddhist shrine. But if they
did, this is how they'd travel:
This photo was taken at Emeishan, Sichuan Province, China. A famous Buddhist
mountain, a lot of people here to pray at the Golden Summit. It is
3099m, and seriously the mountain starts lower than 1000m. We walked to
the top for two days, and we saw this guy on the way down. There are a
group of people who are selling this service. This guy obviously hired
these guys and to hike the mountain for him, wearing a suit and texting.
