The US diplomats don't appear to understand the reason why Karzai is not signing the deal to allow some American forces in the country after 2014. It's actually very simple and seemingly brilliant. He doesn't want the US or NATO in Afghanistan. Nonetheless, his strategy may backfire after the occupying forces leave his country. It's very likely that the Taliban will return with vengeance to oust the existing government of the country.
