It's becoming a moot point. I already can encode video in real

Whoa, for my home use a high-end machine is no longer necessary.

There are still current PC aps that can happily absorb as much
computer power that can be thrown at them. Particularly, 3D games and
video encoding. I watch the various online video content being put out
by the guys who used to host the shows on TechTV, and those shows are
NOT being encoded in real time. It takes multiple hours to crunch the
raw video down into some of the newer, processor-intensive codecs.

Yep, but the video cards will soon be doingthat insteadof the
mainprocessors. And video cards double speed every 6 months instead
of every 18.

Yes, that's a good example. And large databases. (I
am told that most games aren't written properly for
many recent chips, and are therefore wasted).

I know someone who is broke, and a salesman talked
him into dumping a good P3 machine for a P4. He uses

Any decent graphics intensive game thse days can make full use of any
currently available machine. EQ II has a graphics setting designed to
show off future hardware. On a currently available machine, it draws
maybe 1 frame every 10-30 seconds.

You

There's no reason why a virtual WIndows library ala what runs in
Linux couldn't be developed. in fact, I'm positive the Linux version
is being/has been ported to MacOS X on Intel. Expect just as many
Windows applications to run natively on the hardware in MacOS X as
they do in Linux. Possibly more since MacOS X users will pay money up
front for such a product, while most Linux stuff is, at best, the
equivalent of shareware.

 Of
course you can easily put both the new Mac and the PeeCee on a
wireless connection as Mac's have Samba networking built in. I
connect to my PeeCee (a Toshiba laptop) at home all the time
 from my
Mac.

But that is NOT a non-dual state.

It dependes on what you want to do with the
machine. Most people can't use a two year
machine fully unless they are running spread
sheets with 2,000 rows and 1,000 columns.

 What do you mean?
Ever tried working on a 400 MB graphic design in Photoshop?

We will see what happens as things arrive down the product pipeline It's becoming a moot point. I already can encode video in real time and do 3D rendering faster than I ever imagined. Now this? 64 bit? Whoa, for my home use a high-end machine is no longer necessary.

Are you equipped to digitize VHS tapes? We have a video of Amma giving darshan to our dog and we want to get some still shots from it onto the computer so one of them can be used in a book thats being produced for next summers tour. Or does anybody in FF have the wherewithal to do this?
