Ha! That was L.B.'s advice to me, as my editor, when I wrote for his Survival
in Paradise. And he humbly said that he'd been taught that advice.
Turns out, I, as a writer, now do that all the live long day, and L.B. comes to
my mind when it is especially hard to say to myself, "this is great writing but
no fucking way does it belong in this piece. Kill it while the umbilical cord
yet throbs."
