Amazing. One of the best astronomy images I've ever seen! Just think, we looked like that once. That's you, me and everyone and everything we know about was once a bunch of atoms floating round a young star before being pulled into spheres of coalescing matter by gravity.
And after a while some of those bits of matter had the idea of building a telescope to look into space and photograph how other planetary systems came from bits of matter in a belt of dust. Is that far out or what? Pretty damn good bit of organisation, a pat on the back for Earth atoms I think. Makes me dizzy to be part of it, even if my contribution is simply looking at the pictures on a screen. But how common it is that atoms form molecules that form life that gets so sophisticated it knows where it is?
