I fixed the dishwasher. When we installed it, we didn't secure it firmly
enough, and closing the door had pushed the dishwasher in, such that the door
seal, running around the edge, got tweaked, and water was leaking out. What was
interesting was how deformed the seal strip had become, and I figured out that
the escaping steam had softened the plastic backbone/clip, allowing it to
permanently assume its new deformed shape. Being the technical brainiac that I
am, I boiled a pot of water and used it to heat the strip, thus allowing me to
straighten the strip back out to a usable shape. I reinstalled the strip,
loaded the dishwasher, and ran it. No more leak.

I love that dishwasher. It's a high-end Bosch, and it's the best dishwasher
I've ever had. In fact, I told Petra that if I'm ever divorced or widowed, I'm
marrying the dishwasher. She responded, in a very sultry tone, You know, you
can have us both.

Heart - The San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo
Friday, February 14th 2014
http://www.sarodeo.com/entertainers/prca-rodeo-w-heart

Notes: The San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo has been around since 1950.
But, the whole town is based on cattle trails. One location called Five
Points is where a drunk cowboy once fell off his horse. Spaniards founded
the San Antonio Missions - apparently the very first rodeo may have been
when Jose left the gate to the stable open by mistake, causing the very
first round up (rodeo). Go figure.

I inherited the Eldorado from Mom. She bought it new off the show room

You can't get anything these days for a car like that - maybe $1500.

We got our boots at Cavender's and they also have denims and belts and
shirts. If you ever get down here, Ann, we'll take you to see some boots -
you'll go crazy over this place! We get all our hats at Paris Hatters and
we get guitars at Sam Ash Music Store in San Antonio.

Victoria doesn't have anywhere that sells them. Next time I'll send them to

Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: What I Did Today

2013-12-29 Thread Richard Williams
Yesterday I washed one of my cars, with a little help from this dog, Spot.
At our place, we have a garage with two doors with independent
electro-mechanical door openers. That way, when we drive up to the house we
can open the doors and drive in and the dorr will shut behind us with the
touch of a button.

We like this arrangement because it is convenient and safe. Convenient
because there is a door in the garage so we can carry our bags of stuff
from Whole Foods Market right into the kitchen. Safe, because once we get
inside and the door is down, nobody can rob us and take our groceries if
they were to follow us home from the store.

The next door neighbor has installed bars on all his windows and doors and
set up remote cameras all around his house. He built a wrought-iron fence
around his entire yard and has a pit bull in the yard. Inside his house he
has a little yapping terrier; a Browning over-under shotgun and several
pistols including a Colt six-shooter and a Glock automatic, all loaded. He
has probably spent over $10,000 on his home defenses. But, he has to stop
at his gate and get out of the car to unlock it, in order to drive in to
his driveway.

So, I told him that the robbers were probably going to get him when he
stepped out of the truck to unlock the gate, not when he was already inside
the house. He didn't like that. Go figure.

So you have a mountain bike?

It also wouldn't work very well in France which I recall being very
hilly. Otherwise we have bike paths on the streets but there are often
Darwin Award candidates going the wrong way on the one way bike lanes
where they might get offed by cars pulling out from corners that are
blind to that direction.

Last Saturday we to see this place up by Dad's place. This is one of his

at Lake Possum Kingdom near Graham. I use only Texaco oil in all my cars -
most of it comes from either Spindletop, the Permian Basin, or from the

I read a book years ago written from the Indian perspective about the Little
Big Horn. A doctor was privileged to interview several Lakotas that were there.
They said that many of the troops committed suicide during the battle and they
thought it was because of the *firewater* in their canteens. In those days it
was commonly thought that if you are in a battle with Indians you always saved
your last bullet for yourself because you dare not be taken alive. The Lakotas
said very few troops fought bravely and one of them was Custer's brother Tom
and they attributed that to his *warpaint*, the eagle tattooed on his chest.
Historical accounts show that Custer had his men on the move for many hours,
maybe 72 , following Indian sign when he gave the order for his men to camp and
rest. I would bet that if his men did indeed had whiskey in their canteens,
they probably started drinking. Sometime later, scouts found the Indian camp
off on the horizon and showed it to Custer.  A report had just come in about
the same time that Indians had been seen foraging through some crates that had
fallen behind on the trail. Custer was afraid the Indians would know that he
was close and  would scatter. So he called *boots and saddles* and pressed his
exhausted men and horses to break camp and attack. I would assume his men and
horses were not only exhausted but probably many were drunk as well. They
didn't stand a chance. It is estimated that there probably were  at least a
thousand warriors and many were better armed, with repeating rifles, than
Custer's men who were armed with single
shot carbines and ammunition that constantly jammed and prevented quick
reloading. One Indian said the whole battle took about as long as it takes a
hungry man to eat his dinner.

Abso-bloody-lutely! The Indians weren't the cuddly ethnics the PC crowd would
have you believe.

 From Wiki:
The torture [of captives] had strong sacrificial overtones, usually to the
sun. Captives were expected to show extreme self-control and composure during
torture, singing death songs, bragging of one's courage or deeds in battle,
and otherwise showing defiance. The torture was conducted publicly in the
captors' village, and the entire population (including children) watched and
participated. Common torture techniques included burning the captive- which was
done one hot coal at a time, rather than the Hollywood-style pile of firewood
around the captive - cuts from knives, beatings with switches and jabs from
sharp sticks. Prisoners' fingernails were ripped out. Their fingers were
broken, then twisted and yanked by children. Captives were made to eat pieces
of their own flesh, and were scalped alive. To make the torture last longer,
the Native Americans would revive captives with rest periods during which time
they were given food and water. Tortures would begin with the lower limbs, then
gradually spread to the arms, then the torso. The Native Americans spoke of
caressing the prisoners gently at first, which meant that the initial
tortures were designed to cause pain, but only minimal bodily harm. By these
means, the execution of a captive, especially an adult male, could take several
days and nights.

Yep, I'd be taking that cyanide pill!

If George Armstrong Custer had some Winchester repeaters it sure would have
helped! It also would have helped if had taken that shipment of Gatling
guns with him. Also, he refused additional help from other troops stating
that he could whip any bunch of Indians or something to that effect. LoL!

There is a spot up in Austin where Custer stayed with his wife and his
volunteer troops after the civil war. On our last trip up to Deadwood we
visited the Custer State Park. I've read several books about Custer's last
stand where he was wiped out by Sitting Bull. The Black Hills of South
Dakota is full of evidence of Custer, including a county, town.

According to almost all historians, Custer's first big mistake was going
there in the first place; and the second big mistake is when he divided his
troops into two groups, 208 splitting off with Major Reno; and then his
third big mistake was charging in too soon against Crazy Horse. It should
be noted that Custer graduated last in his class at West Point. Go figure.

Maybe number one and number two son should consider attending a local
community college for the first two years. That way, you save tons of
money and you could tell based on their attendance and grades whether or
not they are ready to attend college in the first place.

It's sometimes isn't much fun living in a dorm with strangers, eating
cafeteria food, doing your own laundry, working as a fast food server or
cook and having no car or any money for even a date! LoL!

It could be that one or both might do better learning a vocation or
trade that pays money when they graduate. One gal I know went to a
two-year LVN vocational nursing school and landed a job before one year
was over at $12.00 an hour.

Then she saved up some money and went to a two-year nursing school to be
an RN. Before she graduated she got a job paying $24 an hour, and was
offered a $10.000 incentive to work at the M.D. Anderson medical center
in Houston. Go figure.

One guy I know got a degree in Pshychology from Trinity U., not
realizing that with a mere B.S. in psycholgy, he would only qualify for
a job as an aide at the State School. Another guy I know got a B.A. in
German literature, and he's still working at an Exxon Tiger Mart in Austin.

Wife and number two son are in Milwaukee right now visiting some

that was what I was going to get. As I was going through the menu,

I got to the lobster tails), that as long as they were in the $40.00
range, I would get them. Well, turns out they were $50.00 and some
odd cents, and I got them anyway, and thoroughly enjoyed them.

Good suggestions Richard. Thank you. The closest they might come to that
would be to attend the St. Louis branch of the state college. In this case
UMSL.

But I will be honest about it, at the high school graduation ceremony where
both sons went, and which happens to have the highest average ACT scores in the
city, when they announce for each student, which college or university they
will be attending, no would dare indicate community college. Or even probably
technical school. That is not to say, that some might not end up going that
route, (I know for a fact that many of them do) but at least initially that
would not be a generally accepted option. And I'm not saying that it makes any
sense, but that is the way it is.

Now the scenario you describe above, fits my oldest son perfectly. He would
have been far better going the community college route. He could have stayed at
home, had a part time job, a car, and income. Instead we (and he) have spent a
lot of money for tuition, room and board for what appears to be a pretty
mediocre result.

My wife grew up without a father for most of her life, worked very hard in
high school and always had part time jobs. She attended UMSL for most of her
college career, then transferred to Middlebury where she got her undergrad
degree, then back to UMSL for Master's degree, before she got snatched up by
IBM where she worked for 13 years.

The daughter seems to have inherited her work ethic. I guess they boys take
more after me.

I'm just having a little fun with Judy's ludicrous claim that she is NOT
a stalker, and her even more ludicrous attempt to redefine that word in
terms of having followed someone from forum to forum in pursuit of them.

Cyberstalking is about the pursuit, period, with the intent to harass
and do damage to another person. And that's been Judy's M.O. for close
to 20 years now.

Just run a search on the number of times Judy has referenced her known
enemies on FFL since 2005. She's found occasion to mention me in over
8,600 posts. She has written 3,000 posts each to or about Vaj and
Curtis. In the short time Share has been here, Judy has written to or

I don't think that there is a single person on this forum who doesn't
know what the *tone* and *intent* of most of these posts were. They were
harassment, pure and simple.

And they *were* stalking. Judy is the most consistent and egregious
stalker this forum has ever seen. The fact that she can be so out of it
as to deny this is the scariest part.

Look Barry, this is ridiculous. You are obsessed with enemies and
stalking. Clearly your mind is not trending towards natural joy. Why don't
you conduct a test? Stop mentioning Judy, either by name or by reference, in
all posts for the next two weeks. No commenting on any of her posts either.
Nada. Zip. Then, count up how many times she harasses and does damage to
*you* and only *you* (as you can't speak for anyone else) and post it.

Barry stalks Judy:

I'm just having a little fun with Judy's ludicrous claim that she is NOT
a stalker, and her even more ludicrous attempt to redefine that word in
terms of having followed someone from forum to forum in pursuit of them.

Funhouse mirror time again, kiddies. This is how Barry used the
term. He's now redefined stalking to mean dumping on, to try
to cover up his lie about how I had stalked him from forum to
forum. And is pretending I'm the one who redefined it.

Given his unrelieved stalking of moi in four different forums for the
past 18 years, and of many others in whatever forum he happens to be
in, the hypocrisy of his complaining about anyone else's stalking is
 monumental.

Cyberstalking is about the pursuit, period, with the intent to harass
and do damage to another person. And that's been Judy's M.O. for close
 to 20 years now.

And Barry has never engaged in stalking. See? Just look in that mirror
 over there.

Just run a search on the number of times Judy has referenced her known
enemies on FFL since 2005. She's found occasion to mention me in over
8,600 posts. She has written 3,000 posts each to or about Vaj and
Curtis. In the short time Share has been here, Judy has written to or
about her over 1,700 times now.

As just about everybody here knows, Barry's use of numbers obtained
from Search are thoroughly bogus. You can't do what he pretends to do
with Search, for reasons I've explained a number of times. You'd have to go
through every bloody post on the Search hit list and read it to weed out
the instances of a name or term that was a quote rather than from an
 original post.

Oh, and he tends to avoid referring to his stalkees by name in an attempt
 to diminish his own counts.

It's just one more of Barry's dishonest stalking tactics. He's accumulated
a shitload of 'em by now. He would have nothing to say if he had to be honest.

HI Steve, thanks for sharing a bit of your family celebration. Sounds yummy and
wonderful. Is Number One son back to school? My godson nephew was home from his
first semester of college. He seems to like it but I think he misses his
girlfriend. His older brother is graduating in a couple of weeks and already
has a job. Yep, everybody is getting older!

Richard, I don't think it's such a tough crowd once a newbie knows what to
expect and has a strategy in place.
There's lots of good stuff on FFL, good humor, good knowledge, interesting
info. Hey, thanks for info about latest Neo glitch. I thought it was my
computer and or my Mom's network acting up. Go figure!

Yes, number one son in the midst of his junior year, trying to get his bearings
to some extent. But this year he has had to take on a job to help meet his
living expenses. I think, that was part of the problem last year - too much
time on his hands.

Wife and number two son are in Milwaukee right now visiting some colleges. He
was not accepted into Madison, but there are other colleges in the area he is
considering. Not that he would have gone to Madison. There were many other
considerations, not the least of which was financial and the large size of the
university.

But about those lobster tails. I had been wanting lobster tails for about the
last five years, (at least), but never could bring myself to shell out the
cheddar for them. But on Saturday, I had it in my mind that was what I was
going to get. As I was going through the menu, and seeing the ultra high
prices on things, I said to myself, (before I got to the lobster tails), that
as long as they were in the $40.00 range, I would get them. Well, turns out
they were $50.00 and some odd cents, and I got them anyway, and thoroughly
enjoyed them.

But you know what's bad? Now I want them again! So much for impressions.

 Cold and snowy here!

You know what I've noticed, is that when I access FFL while I am signed into my
business e-mail, which is a yahoo account, I get the old format, and it makes
it much more enjoyable. But once I sign on with my FFL account it's back to
Neo.

Hey, anyone know why sometimes you might hear a high pitched sound in your
ears, and things change perception-wise for an moment or two?

 I just had that happen.
