There are 42 U.S. gallons in a barrel of oil

Gasoline is selling down the street from me for $3.19 a gallon.

Therefore, for each barrel of oil, the oil company gets $133.98.

>From that, deduct the cost of a barrel of oil at $75.00 a barrel and
you get $58.98.

>From that, deduct Federal and State taxes (which in Arizona are 37.4
cents per gallon), which for a barrel is 42 X .374 = $15.71, and you
get $43.27.

>From that $43.27, the oil company has to refine, transport, pay its
overhead, pay its corporate tax (which is about 49%), pay for R&D,
and make a profit.
