Briefly, Vidyaranya points out important advice on attainment of CC. He 
uses numerous sources to do so, put relies heavily on Patanjali. He 
stresses the real importance on going beyond seeded meditation to 
actually attain  dissolution of the mind (not merely transcending it) 
and actual uprooting samskaras. One of the most interesting things 
Vidyaranya does deliberately is avoids all the formulae using samyama 
in chapter 3 of the YS! In fact he goes on to point out, that samyama 
and yogic flying are all obstacles to CC.

In other words--it's a lot deeper that simple meditation this path, and 
yogic siddhis will block the path.

It was interesting for me, as my YS guru taught a very similar, if not 
identical sequence of Patanjali.

Shankaracharya Vidyaranya.
