Actually, Ian's comments notwithstanding, the gradient on the logo

Also, it looks like there is an update to the Plymouth boot loader

No problem. Below you can find a new revision with some corrections (logo

It's mixture of Fedora's base packages, OpenSUSE build system (?) and other

Anyway, Moblin is intended for special devices, it will always boot
faster than a general purpose distro. I think we all would be happy with

Yes, it's for netbooks and embedded systems, so they can do a lot of

 1. Wallpaper Design
 - We have the basic design from Samuele in 1920x1600:

iterated out into the various standard, 4:3, and widescreen formats.
 Dual-screen would be nice too.

It should go to to leonidas-backgrounds ASAP even it's not ready yet and not
all versions are done. We talked about it with Nicu on IRC.

 2. Plymouth Splash - Charlie is waiting on Samuele for a design for this it
 appears?

 3. GNOME splash - we have these designs and I will happily adapt them to
 fit with the lion: http://duffy.fedorapeople.org/art/f11/mockups/splash/

 4. KDE splash - same as #3 above

More likely same as #2 (and #1 too) as I'd like to go with fullscreen splash -
one reason is some background image issues while using GDM, another I'd like
to see same/similar user experience for user while booting as we had/have it
for Solar.

 5. full screen splash for syslinux - nothing yet

 6. grub splash - nothing yet (not sure if this is on the task list)

 7. gnome screensaver lock dialog - nothing yet

 8. anaconda square splash - Samuele put some mocks together
(http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Artwork/F11#King_Concept) but as we agreed a
week ago, these are a bit too busy and still need to be simplified:
 https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-art-list/2009-April/msg00015.html

 9. firstboot vertical header - Samuele put one together that looks great
 (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Artwork/F11#King_Concept)

 10. kdm - nothing

Waiting for #1 to see how is going final wallpaper to look... Easiest way is
only do small changes for Solar theme, preferred way to prepare something
matching theme ;-) Depends on time...

As it's using same greeting XML as GDM, we can share it...

 11. wallpaper extras - I do not think this is on your task list John but I
think we need to add it. I want to try to revive the wallpaper project Nicu
started so we can ship some nice extras wallpapers so the default wallpaper
isn't the only thing we do. I was wondering if anyone has time to help me
out with this? Or is it too late right now to do something like this?

It is also important to note that we are targeting the completion of
final artwork and packaging a little less than two weeks from now on
2009-04-16 so that it can all be in the Preview Release and have two
weeks to shake out anything that needs final fixing before GA.

Please prepare pre-packages sooner... There's lot of work on KDE side...

Thank you for this reminder and for helping keep us on track. It is really,
 really, really helpful.

One note to schedules: I think new artwork is feature and feature deadlines
are really strict and really soon and I think artwork should be ready in time
of feature freeze, to have time to respond users input for beta, then we can
happily wait for release without rush :-)

Final artwork for F11

2009-04-07 Thread Jaroslav Reznik
Hi all!
As we are running out of time, I'd like to see if there's a progress with
current artwork. As we're totally dependent on it for KDM theme, KSplash,
backgrounds etc... I know, it was hard this time, last time change but... KDM
theme has to be bug free as it's important to be able to login to desktop :)
And there are lot of problems every time - it looks differently on different
screens/x servers, problems with fonts, problems with logging and we really
need lot of time to prepare it correctly.

We appreciate your hard work but we really need it ASAP to work on it or we
don't know if we can have it in F11. Otherwise we have to go with Solar
theme... Any helping hand is worth one truck of gold :D

What we need:
- fullscreen background for KDM and splash, included in common backgrounds
package - so maybe left part of leon theme?
- some idea to make it good looking

Thanks

instead, so we would still be able to take advantage of that work.

I made a couple plymouth options that combine the greek pattern with the
theme. There are 4 levels of complexity. Which one do people think is best?

 http://www.cs.man.ac.uk/~brejc8/temp/lion.jpg
 http://www.cs.man.ac.uk/~brejc8/temp/lion2.jpg
 http://www.cs.man.ac.uk/~brejc8/temp/lion3.jpg
 http://www.cs.man.ac.uk/~brejc8/temp/lion4.jpg

Personally I vote for 4th Lion. I like 3rd too but black spots look weird.
Maybe without lines layer a black spot it will be better, now it's too
complicated for splash/KDM background. I can image transition from this
background to desktop wallpaper with lion. But there's still one issue - once
I use this as KDM/KSplash, we need more backgrounds distributed (maybe one
resolution is enough for such simple background even I don't have to deal with
wide/normal version)...

Could you publish it somewhere?

And as Martin pointed out - only one progress bar and match it's color with
background.

Thanks all involved for this wonderful work!

I like this, and the people in the office love it. I don't think I would
change it at all. The area on the left is nice and blue which leaves the
desktop icons easily visible. The theme is perfect.

Going through the image bit by bit the only thing I didn't like was the
back_work layer which has square edges that look a bit out of place.

Because the focus of the image is pretty centred (unlike solar, for
example, which was to the right), we can use Zoom to clip the left and
right edges and thus distribute a smaller set of images (1920x1200 with
left and right clipped by Zoom on gnome desktop background options looks
fine on a 1600x1200 screen). I assume this is the case for KDE as well
 (Jaroslav?).

ScaleCrop should work but if we want this theme then it has to be background
for KDM and KSplash and there's no scaling/cropping support.

We should decide very soon which theme become default one. Current Leonidas
landscape still needs a lot of work - it looks very nice on small screens
(EEE) but on my workstation it lacks details and looks blurry. This Lion one
is maybe too complicated but with some tweaking it could be really wonderful
theme.

I'd be happy to lend a hand to anything that needs doing (that I know how

 Hi Samuele,

I'm not sure if it is OK to go at this point with a conceptually
completely new theme but still your design looks awesome. I have only a
 few to point out:
   * The circles at the left side seem to be a little strange, also
since fedora's default layout has some icons on the left part of
the screen it would be nice to have the wallpaper in that part
 less cluttered

+1
Same as actual Leonidas wallpaper it's maybe too overcomplicated for icons and
widgets. Samule, could you redesign it? Simple, clean left side in opposite to
rich right one?

But it's really nice design! Maybe won't be default one, I let decision on
artwork team ;-), but I'll add it to my wallpapers collection...

It's nearly time to have final one...

Jaroslav

   * I think the birds, or whatever they are, are unnecessary -- the
main concern with the current wallpaper is that it concentrates
on too many motives at once, I think this apply on this one as
 well
   * I'd perhaps remove the stripes over the lion

As for whether it is OK to use this concept for F11, I'd leave the
 answer to Mo.

I like clean splash screens and another issue is - we can have same splash in

Can someone convert the number '10' to paths in source SVG (with proper font)?

I think that the font that you're looking for is MgOpenModata, it's
 in

Offtopic: no isn't Inkscape's work to complain, your word processor
don't complain for a missing font, your PDF viewer don't complain,
 your
web browser don't complain and so on. The applications try to find a
 matching font available.

I know and you are right but a long time ago corel complaints about it.
It's OK for word processor/PDF viewer to match available font and show
at least something you can read. For gfx it's not what I want, I need
exact look. But you know, I'm not artist, so it's my own lama opinion :)

  So second try:

 http://rezza.hofyland.cz/fedora/artwork/banners/fedora10-0day-banner-kde.png

 Yes, that should de it.

I hope I will not annoy you with an idea I got right now: the leftmost

screenshot, the basic KDE desktop, could be recognized by two
 elements:
the dark bottom panel and the upper-right widget (I don't know its
name), but that widget is not very visible. Probably it may be
 possible
to play on the Y and Z axis to make it more obvious.

Ok, thanks! I realized it before and I think better is to switch 1st
and 3rd screenshots - the 1st one is more important than login screen.
Now the whole panel is visible and same for that upper right handle.

For better variety, it may be a good idea to have one of those

 pixels down, to

I don't think having Anaconda in there makes sense. You probably
 only
  see the installer once anyway.

Perhaps, but Nicu has a good point that there should be something
 to
break up the color monotony. It could be a firstboot screen, for
example. Or maybe one or two large windows of colorful
 applications,
like a OOo3 pie chart and/or an art program.

Maybe let the screenshots sit on a silver/metal background with some
 glow/reflections?

+1

Blue screenshots will be highlighted on silver/metal background (maybe
with some links to solar?)

There's just too many blue suns here..

It's really oversolarized here ;)

I'd like to prepare KDE version for KDE spin later.

The best option is dual license, both CC-BY-SA and GPL, otherwise you

 is
the source fode for those two images? The layered .xcf.
So having a consistent (dual) license is the easiest way.

Ok, sounds good for me. So I'm going to use multiple licenses for
solar-kde-theme. CC-BY-SA for artwork and GPLv2 for source code
of themes (it's inherited work from original KDM theme).
Thanks!

Thank you, Rex. The decision from kde-sig has been expected
 considering the lack
of manpower to check KDE side for Fedora 10 (Martin and I are
 primarily Gnome
users) as you stated. It will be nice get one of kde-sig members to
 keep track
inside Echo icon website[1] for future Fedora release.

I prepared our own wiki page[1] to track missing Echo icons
for KDE 4. After decision not to use Echo for F 10 I'm not
currently working on it, there are other tasks to be done now.
But it is still our goal to have Echo for F 11. So I can take care
about Echo for KDE.
We (KDE SIG) are doing nearly everything ourselves with limited manpower
so it is more difficult to stay in touch.

I think it is actually AMD and Intel graphics cards which support
 this
(AFAIK mode setting was recently added to the ati driver, and it has

been present for a longer time (since F9) on the Intel driver.
 Support
is driver dependent rather than hardware dependent, but yeah, only
 a
  couple drivers currently support it.

  From the Beta release notes:
Currently, only Radeon R500 and higher users will get kernel
modesetting by default. There is work in progress to provide
 modesetting
for R100 and R200. Additionally, Intel kernel modesetting drivers are
 in
development, but not turned on by default.

Looks more like feature for F11.

I'm taking KDE splash but I'd like to cooperate with gnome-splash
and of course with Samuel. Now when we are going towards seamless
boot would be nice to have 'seamless' art during boot.

So we don't show the GNOME splash in Fedora by default, which is why
 I
don't consider it high-priority. I don't know what the case is for
 KDE
though. Is the KDE splash always shown or shown by default?

Oh, there is no Gnome splash :) I'm not using Gnome, so I didn't know it.
The KDE splash is always shown by default. It takes some time to start
KDE especially first one.

What do you mean by seamless boot / seamless art? Do you mean
 plymouth?

That's new Fedora 10 feature - start without switching graphics modes,
flickering, black screen during boot. Plymouth is another part. So
now we can have consistent look from very first time of boot to
desktop.

Thanks :) Can you help me with mockup for splash screen
for KDE? I like that Plymouth mockup but I'm afraid there
is no time to implement it for KSplash. So now KDE splash
is just banner like that one in your Anaconda mockup.
But still I'd like to implement something more interesting
- cool :D
There are specs somewhere on Wiki for KSplash theme but
I'm not able to find it now...

  Plymouth splash doesn't display progress.

  It does, doesn't it?

It will do. Ray committed the progress branch to main yesterday and we
 now have
the option of having some kind of progress bar/timer/... Just need
 some ideas now.

Nice! Is there already Solar theme for Plymouth or some graphics
prepared? So I can use it in KSplash theme. And of course idea
for progress bar.

Re: Echo vs the destkop

2008-09-24 Thread Jaroslav Reznik
Hi Martin,
thanks for this useful link.

We (KDE SIG) are trying to use Echo theme as default
for KDE but currently there are still some icons missing.
We are preparing list of to-be-done icons. So can we
fill it as ticket for echo-icon-theme and edit Todo on
Wiki?

I really like Echo theme and it's amazing work from you
and Art Team! Thank you!

Apart from that, while gnome icon theme strives to be default icon

gnome-wide, echo would like to be default fedora-wide (in the

It has the caveats that we need to maintain some amount of
 compatibility
with both gnome icon theme (gnome default) and oxygen icon theme
 (KDE4
default) to keep the dissonances low. Also it has the pros that we
 can
better focus on covering fedora/redhat specific apps, like
system-config-* that the other icon themes are overlooking/ignoring.

I like the idea of Fedora-wide icon theme and Echo icon theme. It can
cover differences between Gnome KDE in the future and as you said we
need it for system-configs and other Fedora related applications too.

Fedora Kickoff button artwork request

2008-08-29 Thread Jaroslav Reznik
Hi Artwork team!
We are trying to customize and do some Fedora branding
for KDE 4 and we need some artwork.

The first one is Fedora button for Kickoff - it's
application launcher in KDE. There is small button
which currently links to KDE project web. But we
want our custom button. Default button can be found
here: /usr/share/kde4/apps/desktoptheme/default/
widgets/branding.svg (kdebase-workspace package).
More info can be found on Wiki.
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/JaroslavReznik/
FedoraKDEBranding/KickOff

And of course there are so many places in KDE 4
for artwork (like plasma theme etc...)

Thanks for help!
